Innuendo aside, The Wiggles say their new song is one of “love, friendship and belonging”.
The children’s entertainers have joined forces with American country music singer Orville Peck on a track titled Friends of Dorothy, and Peck is seen in the video clip dancing with long-time Wiggles companion, Dorothy The Dinosaur.
A “friend of Dorothy” is code for “gay man. believed to have been coined in 1939, when homosexuality was illegal, as Judy Garland portrayed Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. She went on to become a gay icon.
“The Wiggles have always aimed to create music that brings joy and positivity to fans of all ages,” The Wiggles said in a statement to Confidential.
“Friends of Dorothy is a playful song celebrating Dorothy the Dinosaur, a beloved character who has been part of The Wiggles family for over three decades.
“While the phrase has a special meaning to many, our focus is on sharing messages of love, friendship, and belonging – something we hope everyone can enjoy and celebrate together.’
Peck, meanwhile, visited Sydney in December when he won the International Musician of the Year at the GQ Men of the Year Awards.
Known for always wearing a mask, he collaborated with country legend Willie Nelson on a version of Ned Sublette’s Cowboys Are Frequently Secretly Fond of Each Other.
The Wiggles new country themed album – Wiggle Up, Giddy Up, is released today.
Other international collaborations on the album include country icon Dolly Parton, country pop singer Dasha and rising star Lainey Wilson.
Locally, there’s Travis Collins, Kaylee Bell, Troy Cassar-Daley, Morgan Evans and The Wolfe Brothers.
