A former Miss Universe Australia finalist is warning fellow contestants on a glamorous new reality show they shouldn’t underestimate her – and she has a very personal reason for wanting to win.
Adelaide beauty Alexandra Duggan is one of two stunning local faces who will star on Ten’s new series The Traitors, hosted by actor Rodger Corser.
Premiering this Sunday, it’s been billed an “enthralling and nailbiting series … (involving) Australia’s most cunning contestants”.
They must unmask the traitors in their midst or lose their chance at the loot – up to $250,000 in actual silver bars – through a series of challenges.
Set in grand accommodation, we’re being told to expect cloaks, daggers and deceit – and, ah, actual masks.
Duggan, a social media co-ordinator, says the potential $250,000 winner’s prize would allow her and her girlfriend, Blake Tiffany, to marry and start a family.
“We really want to get engaged, buy a house and have some kids … it’s quite expensive for a same sex couple to have kids and so that’s probably where most of the money would go,” says Duggan, who reached the finals of Miss Universe Australia in 2019.
Aged in her mid-20s, the brunette is certain to stir things up.
When interviewed as a Miss Universe Australia finalist, Duggan spoke of her metamorphosis from a placid child to a self-assured adult.
“Growing up, I was a quiet and unbothered kid; the woman I am today is far from that … I am confident, courageous and sometimes a little too compassionate,” she is reported as saying.
Duggan believes her competition strength will be her determination but admits her downfall could be her trusting nature.
“I think that people underestimate me and what I can do so I’m not going to let all the cats out of the of the bag all at once … it’s good to hold your cards close and play them when necessary,” she says.
Also competing for the reality jackpot is SA’s Marielle Intveld, a student and bartender who has previously worked as a model, actress and paralegal.
Intveld believes she has a natural, secret weapon.
“(I’ve an) ability to win people over and an overconfident determination to succeed. I’m a naturally friendly person so I form connections easily but I am also fiercely stubborn and determined to do the best I can,” she says.
“I don’t give up easily and I’m not scared to give anything a go.”
Her plan of attack?
“I am hoping to be largely insignificant but form relationships with people without others knowing and build a network of alliances that keeps me in the game for as long as possible,” she says.
“I don’t want to immediately be identified as a threat.”
She says she is not bothered either to be found out – as a secret game traitor.
“Morally, it doesn’t really align with who I am, but in the game, I have no hesitation with playing cutthroat … I think I can deceive people pretty well without being overly obvious,” Intveld says.
If she wins, she plans to use the money to “pay off my mortgage, donate some to charity, and go on a holiday somewhere with as many adrenaline-pumping activities as I can squeeze in.”
The whodunit show – based on a Dutch concept – will air on Channel 10 at 7.30pm.
