The Kid Laroi receives honour for excellence in music at G’Day USA gala

The accolades keep piling up for one-time Sacred Heart College student The Kid Laroi, picking up an honour at a star-studded event in Los Angeles.

He’s the one-time Sacred Heart College student once known as Charlton Howard taking the music world by storm.

And his red carpet appearance at the 20th G’Day USA Arts Gala in Los Angeles is a far cry from his life as Adelaide schoolboy Charlton Howard.

The Kid Laroi received honours for excellence in music at the star-studded event alongside supermodel Miranda Kerr in the arts and actor Sam Worthington in film and television.

The 19-year-old global phenomenon gave a shout-out to his parents at Sunday’s award ceremony.

“I’m not really an award guy, but I will say this is something I am really, really honoured to take,” he said.

“Not only just because it obviously looks really cool but because I’ve got both of my parents here tonight.”

Laroi also performed his smash hit Stay which he recorded with Justin Bieber and has been streamed more than two billion times.

Back home his 2022 release Thousand Miles came in at No. 33 in Saturday’s Triple J Hottest 100.

In one of Hollywood’s most unconventional relationships, Miranda Kerr and Katy Perry put on a united front on the red carpet.

Perry is engaged to and has a daughter with Kerr’s ex, actor Orlando Bloom, with the pair regularly supporting each other in their work. Kerr and Bloom have a son together while she has two boys with husband Evan Spiegel.

“I’ve been given so many incredible opportunities since moving to America,” Kerr, 39, said. “I feel blessed with lifelong friendships, have collaborated professionally with some of the best creatives in the world, and of course met and married my wonderful husband Evan and started my own family here.”

Kerr has been flying the Aussie flag internationally for more than two decades, having first been discovered in the Dolly Model Competition and going on to become a Victoria’s Secret Angel.

While still modelling, the majority of Kerr’s time is taken up as the global head of her wellness brand Kora Organics.

As to the best advice she’d received, Kerr said: “If you do something, give it 100 per cent or don’t do it at all. This echoes through my head no matter what I’m doing … the dishes, making the bed, or making a business decision.”
