With just days to go until The Bachelor finale airs, all eyes are on contestant Irena Srbinovska who is tipped to win Locky Gilbert’s heart.

However, their fairytale romance has already been overshadowed by reports of a split, with insiders claiming the Perth tour guide broke the Melbourne nurse’s heart when he dumped her shortly after filming wrapped.

Earlier this month Srbinovska, who is the favourite to win on Sportsbet, fuelled split rumours when she “liked” an Instagram comment from a fan which read: “You’re too good for him tho [sic]!!”

In response to split reports, a network 10 spokeswoman told Confidential that Gilbert is still in a relationship with the winner.

“Locky and his chosen lady are still together and very happy,” a spokeswoman said.

A look back at past couples from the Channel 10 reality show indicates that the vast majority of them have called it quits.

Just three out of seven seasons has produced successful relationships, with most ending in tears.

Season two’s Blake Garvey infamously proposed to winner Sam Frost during the 2014 finale before abruptly changing his mind and dumping the Home And Away star for second runner-up Louise Pillidge.

Garvey and Pillidge eventually had the same fate and ended their romance after 18 months.

“The negativity has been draining, plus it took months to deal with the fact I was Blake’s third choice of partner,” Pillidge said at the time.

Perth’s Richie Strahan also endured a public split with his chosen winner Alex Nation during season four, after dumping fan-favourite Nikki Gogan.

The former couple ended their tumultuous relationship in 2017 after less than a year together and Nation, who later came out as bisexual, hinted at the extent of their problems on Bachelor in Paradise when she claimed she was left alone “to do something that involved both of us.”

At the time, Strahan expressed his disappointment.

“Having something dissolve the way it did was heartbreaking, but at the same time, there was a lot of relief that the emotional rollercoaster was finally over,” he said.

Season six ended in one of the most controversial finale’s to date when former rugby star Nick Cummins chose no one and stayed single.

Cummins sparked viewer backlash in 2018 after leaving both finalists Brittany Hockley and Sophie Tieman in tears and he stood by his decision at the time.

“It hit me with a fair bit of a thunderbolt. It was just like, you know what? Out of respect to these women, if I can’t stand here and say ‘I’m picking her and I love her,’ why would I start something with someone?” he said.

The following season saw astrophysicist Matt Agnew announce his split with winner Chelsie McLeod just two months after their “fairytale” ending.

The pair appeared to be smitten while doing press rounds immediately after the finale aired but abruptly broke up later on, which raised questions about the show’s contractual obligations.

“For Chels and me, our relationship hasn’t translated from filming to the real, every day world as we had hoped … It’s no one’s fault, it’s just life,” Agnew said.
