The Masked Singer is back for its fifth spin in Australia and the hottest rumour is Jackie O has gone from panellist to performer.
Social media has been buzzing with rumours that the radio superstar is under one of the extravagant Tim Chappel-designed costumes.
There are other whispers that early 2000s “ It” girl” The O.C actress Mischa Barton is among the 10 celebrities, which would be a perfect cross-promotion for her role on the new chapter of Neighbours.
All we know for sure is that someone is a Grammy-winning global superstar, another is a Hollywood heart-throb, while yet another mystery celeb is a reality TV Queen.
The clues are a whole lot more cryptic this year. Abbie Chatfield – who’s back for her second time on the feel-good Ten reality show, alongside Mel B, Chrissie Swan, Dave Hughes and Osher Gunsberg – said production had made the guessing so very much harder than in the past.
“There’s no key words you can Google like last year,” she said, detailing all the clues that helped her unmask Shannon Noll as The Blowfly. “It’s all like double entendres. It’s like four levels of riddles that you’re like ‘What does this even mean?’.
“So yeah, I did not do too well.”

BOUNCER
With footage of the celeb belting out an amazing version of Australia’s unofficial national anthem, John Farnham’s You’re The Voice, fans are pretty sure they know who is under the kangaroo costume and mask. Social media is abuzz that it is Australian ARIA Award-winning singer, Conrad Sewell. “Is that the steady hand of Conrad Sewell?’ one posted. While others have suggested Darren Hayes or Mitch Tambo.
COWGIRL
Singing Wannabe by the uber girl group Spice Girls, this singer certainly has some spicy moo-ves. Guesses have included Vanessa Amorosi, Carrie Bickmore and even Rebel Wilson, Courtney Act, who shot to fame on Australian Idol, looks more likely to Bethe reality TV queen? “It’s our Courtney finally!” wrote one person. While another penned “That is, without a shadow of a doubt, our Courtney. Back home a few weeks ago, that high-pitched voice is pretty unmistakeable.”
CRASH TEST DUMMY
With hints such as a much-loved sporting superstar (he’s shown how brave he is on TV before, but is The Masked Singer his toughest gig yet?) this celeb could be former AFL player Brendan Fevola who recently teased he had to cancel his Europe sojourn due to some mystery scheduling conflicts. Others suggest tennis champ Roger Federer, Daniel Ricciardo or Grant Denyer.
SNOW FOX
Mel B said “they can SING” and is “definitely a global international superstar”. Glee’s Amber Riley is the top pick after the snippet of Snow Fox singing a soulful rendition of Addicted by Avicii. The 37-year-old won The Masked Singer USA last year as ‘The Harp.’ “It’s Amber Riley, it has to be!!,” on fan commented on the teaser trailer posted to Instagram. While others commented: “Jess Mauboy for sure.” Or Broadway star and actress Idina Menzel.
GRIM REAPER
Despite one of the creepiest masks of the Australian version so far, this celeb has the voice of an angel. Swan said it “was the most extraordinary two minutes of my life” in the promo after hearing the celeb tackle Unholy by Sam Smith and Kim Petras. The groundswell of opinion is it’s Savage Garden frontman Darren Hayes.
FAWN
With the clue Aussie Royalty? And Mel B suggesting radio royalty and former Masked Singer super guesser Jackie O, saying “that would be huge seeing a former judge become a contestant”. But others were not convinced: “Jackie O cannot sing. She is completely tone deaf. It can’t be her” one posted. One eagle-eared fan suggested Samantha Jade.
TINY
With hints such as he’s a Celebrity Super Dad, there’s wild speculation that funnyman Jimmy Rees is concealed under this hard-to-figure-out creature. Or ex-pat singer Peter Andre. “He’s got loads of kids and can sing and would definitely do this show,” a fan suggested. Former Bachelor Sam Wood is another interesting pick. Or what Chris Hemsworth – who’s a Hollywood Super(hero) dad-of-three.
BAD AVOCADO
So this fruity costume is tipped to be the Billion Stream Powerhouse. Look it’s unlikely to be Taylor Swift who’s smashing out a huge world tour, but other powerhouse possibilities who have notched up that milestone include Miley Cyrus, Dua Lipa, Billie Eillish. One of the few Australian artists to achieve that is Tone and I. The only glitch in the matrix is she also sounds very much like Space Fairy.
SPACE FAIRY
Hughesy exclaims this is “one of the best singers to ever be in any series of The Masked Singer”. The Dance Monkey hit maker Tones and I is also the No. 1 guess for the “out of this world” performer. Some 99 per cent of pundits were convinced that the incredible vocals belonged to the almost 30-year-old singer. The other wild guesses included Samantha Jade, or Kelly from Hi-5.
BLUEBOTTLE
Last year everyone was certain Emma Bunton aka Baby Spice was a certainty to be under a mask after she was spotted dining with her friend Mel B while the show was filming. The hype has started again with Scary Spice declaring in promos she’s confident her former bandmate is under this costume. Social media pundits are not so sure, one posting “I’d be rich if I was paid $100 for every time Mel predicts a Spice Girl”.
