Waleed Aly leaves The Project co-stars in shock over wild claim

Sarah Harris couldn’t hide her complete shock as her co-star Waleed Aly made a wild claim on Tuesday’s The Project.

Waleed Aly left his co-stars on The Project in a state of shock when he made a wild claim on Tuesday’s episode of the Channel 10 show.

In the opening segment of the episode, the panel investigated “smell training”, which involves helping dementia patients train their nose to identify and differentiate between scents correctly.

It’s being used effectively to help decrease the symptoms of dementia in those suffering with the disease.

After discussing smells such as flowers and candles, Aly broached a more surprising scent that could help; farts.

“If you want the health benefits, it’s a very different picture. What you really should be smelling are farts. I’m not making this up!” he explained, causing Sarah Harris to open her mouth in shock.

“They did experiments in mice and found that smelling farts might help protect the braincells against ageing, as well as kidney disease and dementia.

Harris then interjected, yelling: “Dutch ovens for dementia!”

As the panel began to laugh, co-star Sam Taunton added: “Wow I can really see the T-shirts now!”

Studies have shown smell training has led to a decrease in symptoms for seniors suffering with depression and improved the cognitive abilities of dementia patients, helping them recall words better than brain-training apps.

But even if you haven’t been diagnosed with any such conditions, there are still merits to testing your nose, to see how much it knows.

A small study published last year by researchers in Korea also revealed that intensive smell training led to improvements in depression, attention, memory and language functions in 34 patients with dementia compared with 31 participants with dementia who did not retrieve such training.

Meanwhile, it comes after Harris recently found international viral fame after her interview with Hollywood star Austin Butler went viral.

Kicking off the interview on a personal note, Harris told Butler he had a “very piercing gaze.”

“You do this thing where you look into people’s souls … I’m getting it now,” Harris told the big screen star, prompting him to subtly up the ante further on said gaze.

“Yeah? … You have a piercing gaze too,” he responded, locking eyes with Harris.

A flustered Harris replied, “All right, you’re making me nervous now.”
