Viewers horrified as fly drops into reporter’s mouth live on-air

Viewers were left disgusted after a fly appeared to fall from a presenter’s face and directly into her mouth.

A news reporter has gone viral for all the wrong reasons after she appeared to swallow a fly while live on-air.

Journalist Vanessa Welch, with US network Fox Boston25, was caught suffering the blunder during a recent broadcast, leaving viewers horrified and calling for her to get a raise for continuing like nothing had happened.

The incident happened mid-broadcast, when a small black object that appeared to be a fly landed on her eyelash.

As she continued speaking, Vanessa appeared to swallow whatever it was, and after a quick grimace realising what had happened, simply carried on.

Viewers rushed to social media to poke fun at the horrifying moment after it was broadcast to the world.

“Now she’s gonna have to swallow a spider to catch the fly,” laughed one viewer.

“Not even fazed. Peak professionalism,” said another, while a third remarked: “I have NEVER seen that level of professionalism DAMN.”

“Nah she needs a raise, she didn’t even bat an eye (Well she sorta did).” laughed another fan, with someone else who saw the clip adding: “For anyone trying to find out the name of the anchor, it’s Venus. Ms Venus flytrap.”

Bizarrely, this isn’t the first time a fly has ended up interrupting a broadcast.

Last year, UK Sky News journalist Deborah Haynes was reporting from the 2023 NATO summit in Lithuania when the cringe-worthy scenes played out.

The veteran was forced to stop her outdoor broadcast and turn away from the camera, before she could be heard coughing.

She then told a member of the crew: “I ate a fly!”

Later in the day, she took to her Twitter page to poke fun at her reaction as she wrote: “’I just ate a fly’ – the perils of recording a TV piece at night with bugs swarming around the light.”
