THERE’S a new TV show on the way which is basically the Hunger Games without the killing.
In Survival Live eight people will be dropped into the wild with nothing but their clothes for 42 days.
Just like the Hollywood blockbuster, fans of the show will be able to monitor the contestants’ health stats online 24 hours a day to see how they’re coping during the extreme challenge.
But the similarities don’t stop there.
The contestants will also be relying on gifts from viewers to help them survive, such as when Haymitch Abernathy (played by Woody Harrelson) sent Katniss Everdeen (played by Jennifer Lawrence) some medicine in The Hunger Games.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “The onus is on each survivalist to build a social network to help them.”
AUSTRALIAN CONTESTANT ON ‘INSANE’ SHOW, NAKED AND AFRAID
There’ll be two episodes of Survival Live each week, one will be broadcast live and the other will be prerecorded to show viewers how the contestants coped during the week.
Much like Big Brother, one contestant will be booted off the show each week (probably much to their relief).
According to Discovery Channel President Eileen O’Neill, there’s already been a lot of interest from people keen to audition for the show.
“We have a lot of people who want to test their mettle on our survival shows,” O’Neill said to THR.
“These are pretty rugged environments, so we do background checks and psych checks, and that reduces the pool to choose from pretty quickly.”
The show is similar to Discovery’s other extreme survival show, Naked and Afraid.
