TOP 5 HOME AND AWAY WEDDINGS
Shane & Angel (1995)
Shane (the late Dieter Brummer) and Angel’s (Melissa George) wedding was one of the most moving moments in the show’s history. After Alf (Ray Meagher) accidentally ran over Angel and she was temporarily paralysed and confined to a wheelchair, Angel stood up and on Donald Fisher’s arm, shakily walked down the aisle to marry Shane. Unfortunately their relationship was cruelly cut short when Shane was knocked off his bike and suffered a ruptured spleen before dying of blood poisoning on the anniversary of their wedding.
Sally & Flynn (2003)
Sally (Kate Ritchie) and Flynn’s (Joel McIlroy) wedding didn’t go to plan. Sally’s horse drawn carriage bolted, causing her and bridesmaid Leah, to walk. When she finally did arrive, it rained and they got soaked. The wedding was moved to the hospital. Don Fisher acted as the celebrant and all the guests including Sally’s foster mother Pippa and foster brother Steven, wore towelling robes. Unfortunately their relationship ended tragically when Flynn died of cancer.
Jack & Martha (2006)
Jack (Paul O’Brien) and Martha (Jodi Gordon) couldn’t agree on anything for their wedding. The couple eventually agreed for Jack to pick the ceremony and Martha the reception. He chose a traditional church and she chose a barn dance for the reception. The ceremony and the reception was all smooth sailing until suddenly people start to panic as the smell of gas fills the barn. Zoe McCallister (Emily Perry) makes her last chilling threat that Summer Bay will pay, just then someone appears carrying in a cake with sparkles … The entire barn explodes into flames as everyone scramble to escape.
Bianca & Heath (2013)
Who could blame teacher Bianca Scott (Lisa Gormley) for falling for bad boy Heath Braxton (Dan Ewing). At the wedding, Bianca joins Heath at the altar and as the celebrant prepares for the vows, Heath halts the wedding as he wants to tell Bianca something he needs to get off his chest. He confesses his one-night stand in her ear. An upset Bianca she punches Heath, knocking him down, as horrified guests watched on. Heath’s mother Cheryl screams and Bianca flees from the ceremony in tears. The wedding was called off. A week later, Bianca and Heath reconciled and the wedding is back on.
Alf & Martha (2020)
After the hospital siege and the tragic loss of Mason Morgan, Alf (Ray Meagher) realised life was too short and tells Martha (Belinda Giblin) that they should get married. The Summer Bay couple marry in a beautiful ceremony in the grounds of Summer Bay House. Alf is beaming with joy as Martha walks down the aisle towards him, where Alf’s wedding gift to her is revealed – the exact replica of the archway Alf had built Martha for their first wedding.
