IT seemed like the walls were caving in for The Block contestants Steve and Chantelle last night, but the pair promises they are “closer than ever”.
IT seemed like the walls were caving in for The Block’s Steve and Chantelle during Wednesday night’s episode, leaving fans concerned that the pair had finally cracked under the pressure.
An exhausted Chantelle revealed the Melbourne couple had been sleeping in separate beds. Speaking directly to the bed cam in the dark, she admitted: “Steve and I aren’t getting along so great. We had a bit of a blue and it’s just got me a bit down.
“I feel a bit bruised and sore and sorry for myself. You just have to crack on and for the first time it’s really demotivated me,” the usually upbeat Block contestant said.
But Chantelle has denied any hint of a relationship rift. “It’s always difficult having an argument with the one you love, especially on camera for everyone to see,” she told news.com.au this morning.
“It was a stressful time for us in those final weeks, but we’ve come out of this experience closer than ever.”
Last month, it was reported that Steve and Chantelle’s two-year relationship was on the rocks with an insider revealing that negative feedback on social media and the ongoing pressure of filming was severely affecting the pair.
Despite being announced as the winners of the show’s final challenge last night, things appeared strained between the pair on site, with Steve snapping orders at his stressed girlfriend. “Can you concentrate on what you’ve got to do? I’m trying to be down here to stay out of your way,” he barked.
The tension didn’t go unnoticed by fellow contestant Lysandra, who confirmed that they had been sleeping in different beds.
Overcome with emotion at the end of the episode, Chantelle told the camera: “I’m tired. I need it to finish, not long til it’s all over.”
“F**k, you can talk, I can’t. I can’t function seriously.”
It’s certainly not the first time a reality TV show has shaken a couple to its core. On Nine’s renovation show alone, sleepless nights, tough decisions and weeks spent away from their families has been known to push even the strongest contestants over the edge - cue the curse of The Block.
