‘Shut Pete Evans and his sad supporters down’

IF there is one person with the power to dispatch radical health nut, COVID-denier and immunisation sceptic Pete Evans to the media obscurity he richly deserves, it’s Magda Szubanski.
When this writer last checked, comedienne and actor Szubanski was Australia’s most popular woman.
Evans, by contrast, has been verging for some time on being television’s most reviled man.
If you missed it, last week Szubanski claimed she’d been fat-shamed on social media by former My Kitchen Rules judge Evans who posted a whinge about TV ads featuring the actor in the guise of her most popular character, netballer Sharon Strzelecki.
Evans called out the ads promoting mask wearing as “offensive and disgraceful”.
“Imagine if (families) actually wanted to help people get healthy … how would an ad like that look and sound?” he wrote, drawing swift support from a host of followers who piled on and targeted Szubanski, by name, with a stream of vile and insulting comments.
She responded with a picture of her grandmother and a blunt slapdown: “Frankly I am sick to f...ing death of skinny people (yes Pete Evans and your followers) assuming they are morally and spiritually superior.”
Bouyed by the support of health workers, suicide prevention agencies, media and politicians alike, on Friday an emboldened Szubanski took another shot.
“More alarming to me than anything these people say about my weight is that THEY DON’T BELIEVE COVID IS REAL! That poses a far greater risk to other people’s health than me being fat. Fat ain’t contagious.”
She’s right of course, but stupidity sadly is, as Evans’ supporters — a group who deny everything that traditional medicine has taught us — are slow to realise.
Come on Facebook, Twitter and other agents of hate. Ban this man from your community. It’s time he was shut down.
