NSW mother and daughter duo Cathy and Anna eliminated from My Kitchen Rules

FOR Cathy and Anna, their food critiquing days in front of the camera were finally skewered during the latest elimination at Kitchen HQ.

WE’VE officially reached the pointy end of the My Kitchen Rules competition.

But for Cathy and Anna, their food critiquing days in front of the camera were finally skewered during the latest elimination at Kitchen HQ.

The mother-and-daughter duo were put to the test against SA mums Bree and Jessica and youngsters Thalia and Bianca in the knockout round, and after the first skills test, the pair from Walcha, NSW looked to have the edge.

Teams were tasked with trimming and then trussing a beef eye fillet within 10 minutes and the meat lovers took the early lead, meaning they could choose who cooks what in the next challenge.

The country pair opted to cook with beef again and handed chocolate to the mums, leaving Thalia and Bianca with skate wings.

Cathy and Anna teamed their beef fillet with a cauliflower puree, mushrooms and wilted spinach but judges commented that they hadn’t let their beef rest for long enough.

“The taste and texture was absolutely amazing. Cooked to perfection!” Manu said, but added that the lack of sauce detracted from the dish.

Thalia and Bianca’s skate wings were praised as “amazing” and “beautiful and golden”, sending the Tassie besties straight to the Top 5. This meant the other two teams were left to battle it out in the third round sudden death.

An emotional Cathy and Anna poured everything into their signature dish of chermoula quail, while Bree and Jess plated up their signature “curry in a hurry”.

Tough judge Colin Fassnidge praised the mums, saying: “Girls, tonight you took me to your home and fed me with love. It was a great curry.”

Again, a single point separated which team survived and which left the MKR kitchen for the last time. Kudos to both sets of women for such impressive scores, Bree and Jess landing 51/60 and Cathy and Anna on 50/60.

Country pair Cathy and Anna Lisle were emotional when they realised they had been eliminated.

“All good things must come to an end. It’s been an amazing experience,” Cathy said.

Anna added: “It hasn’t been easy, there’s been lots of highs and lows, but it has been worth every minute. Mum and I are closer than ever. I didn’t think it would be possible, but we are.”

Of course, it wouldn’t be MKR without a twist or two and last night, Manu revealed ANOTHER cooking round — the ultimate restaurant round (can viewers handle any more?)

This time, the top five teams will return home to host a dinner party and have to cook two entrees, two mains and two desserts but won’t know until guests arrive on the night what they will order.

Queensland surfer dads Paul and Blair are up first on Tuesday night, 7.30pm on Seven.

The final five teams go head-to-head in a second round of instant restaurants.
