Nine axes Australia’s Got Talent just 18 months after Seven dropped it from their schedule

THE talent show has been dropped for the second time, just 18 months after Seven announced the program was no longer viable.

AUSTRALIA’S Got Talent has been axed for a second time.

After Seven dropped the show in 2012 after falling ratings, Nine acquired the rights to the talent program in 2013, hoping to breathe new life into it.

But after just one year at the network, Mumbrella reports Nine has also decided the program is no longer viable.

AGT struggled last year against Seven’s The X Factor, with the winner announcement pulling in just 1.4m viewers compared to it’s rivals 2.43m viewers.

It regularly rated under one million viewers throughout the series.

The experiment also proved costly for Nine after an embarrassing legal stoush with Seven over Melanie Brown.

Geri Halliwell was announced as the replacement for Mel B after Seven secured an injunction to stop her switching networks.

Kyle Sandilands, Julia Morris, Timomatic and Dawn French were also a part of the program.

Nine will now focus on The Voice and The Voice Kids, while Seven is expected to roll out another series of The X Factor later this year.
