Masked Singer 2021 ultimate guide: The stars who could be on the show
The Masked Singer is back and speculation is rife that international stars will be among the shock reveals this season.
TV
Don't miss out on the headlines from TV. Followed categories will be added to My News.
The Masked Singer is back for its third year and if you thought last year’s costumes were weird, then you’re in for a treat starting tonight.
Academy Award-winning designer Tim Chappel has outdone himself again including the gorgeous Atlantis and Vampire, the electric Lightning, a somewhat creepy Baby and Dolly, a slightly terrifying Vampire, and the awfully cute Pavlova and Kebab.
Dave “Hughesy” Hughes – who’s back with fellow judges Urzila Carlson, Jackie O and Dannii Minogue – admits he was a little bit scared of the Vampire and transported back to his childhood where he would sleep with rosary beads tightly clenched in his first after he watched the TV miniseries Salem’s Lot.
Host Osher Gunsberg is ready for the guessing games to begin, taking to Instagram to share, “Can’t wait to ‘TAKE IT OFF’ with you all soon.”
While in previous seasons, Ten has given a heap of clues as to who might be under the elaborate masks, this year the network has been somewhat tight-lipped with only generic clues such as “meet Pavlova – this mask is as sweet as they look” and “Baby – Is this a serious singer or just full of hot air?”
However, speculation is rife that international stars will be among the shock reveals this season.
Former Home And Away and Pretty Little Liars star, Tammin Sursok touched down in Australia from LA a few months ago, meaning she could have jetted in for the bonkers reality competition.
Another star said to be in the mix is UK reality TV favourite Charlotte Crosby, who won Australia over on I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here.
She recently flew into Oz, but said after quarantining she was sent home. Or was she throwing a red herring?
“I went to Australia just to quarantine and then came home,” Charlotte explained on Instagram. “I went to Australia for work which got cancelled because Sydney went into lockdown so I had to come home.”
She has never clarified exactly why she was here.
Meet your Masked Singer Australia class of 2021:
Atlantis
#atlantismask
This costume’s one of the more abstract ones but Atlantis could be an Olympian.
“Atlantis, somehow beeped with a metal detector. Prediction: Susie O’Neill. Susie’s first Olympic gold medal in the pool, was won in Atlanta in 1996. This is why Atlantis beeped when the screening wand went over her,” one eagle-eyed fan wrote on Twitter.
Baby
#babymask
Panellist Jackie O admitted she wouldn’t want to give birth to the Baby, but fans are already creeped out. Charlotte Crosby or Emma Wiggle have been touted by social media fans. While another speculated on Twitter: “Early call – Baby = Ann Edmonds.”
Dolly
#dollymask
I mean, if you ask me, Dolly is equally as creepy as Baby. She’s just like the doll your Nana had in her toilet to cover the toilet rolls. Pink and fluffy as terribly disturbing to spot as you were doing your business. We all know Chappel likes to create the costumes with the celeb – could the ultimate Dolly – as in Parton – be another international star hidden under the mask?
Duster
#Dustermask
Former MasterChef judge George Calombaris was unmasked as the duster.
It marked the return of Calombaris to Channel 10 after he left MasterChef in 2019 when it emerged he had underpaid workers at his restaurants.
Kebab
#kebabmask
We all know this is the Aussie drunken food of choice, but as for who is singing disguised as one, we’re less sure. Names including Neighbours star Alan Fletcher, Kate Langbroek and even Voice judge Rita Ora have been suggested.
Lightning
#lightningmask
Thunder and lightning very, very frightening me? This is another in the stunning line by Chappel – we haven’t heard the voice so not sure if Lightning is female or male. AFL club Port Power has a lightning bolt as its mascot. Five Bedrooms star Hugh Sheridan is a huge Power fan, and a fabulous singer … what an electric combination.
Mullet
#mulletmask
I mean there’s nothing fishy about a mullet with a mullet right? We all know this mask nearly fell off in a round almost exposing its celebrity. Fans are convinced it’s a certain ex AFL legend. “It’s none other than boundary riding legend himself (with a fine mullet to boot) Robert ‘Dipper’ DiPierdomenico,” one penned on Twitter.
Pavlova
#pinatamask
Could it be a twist on the longstanding dispute as to who invented the sugary iconic dessert. We say it’s Australia, obviously but our friends across the ditch fraudulently claim it as theirs Judge Urzila Carlson said she settled the fact once and for all this season and it was her adopted home country. So maybe it’s NZ singer Lorde?
#pavolvamask
Pinata
#pinatamask
This brightly coloured creation is already a fan favourite. “Piñata already has my heart,” one fan confessed on Instagram.
Some are convinced that it’s radio personality Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli, but he is remaining tight-lipped. “I don’t know why there was a link being made to me being a Piñata … but I can’t talk about it,” he shared on his and Fitzy’s breakfast Nova show.
Professor
#professormask
With its crazy hair and the periodic table emblazoned on their chest, the Professor is one brainy creation … Dr Karl (not you Alan Fletcher) Kruszelnicki is that you?
Vampire
#vampiremask
Everyone is stumped when it comes to Vampire, this contestant is already creeping people out on social media. “Vampire looks like something that would have gotten you eliminated on Face Off,” mused one.
“I will have nightmares about that vampire mask,” wrote another.
Volcano
#volcanomask
British actor Vinnie Jones, who starred in X Men, was the first celebrity to be revealed on this season of The Masked Singer.
The Masked Singer Australia airs Monday and Tuesday, 7.30pm, on Ten
