He’s the acerbic British celebrity chef more renowned for his foul mouth and exacting standards, than his good humour.
But videos with his fourth child, TikTok star Tilly have shown Gordon Ramsay’s softer side. And gone viral.
The video where the 19-year-old smashed a raw egg on her famous father’s head, before quickly exiting the kitchen attracted close to 70 million views.
Now it’s the inspiration for Sunday night’s first Celebrity MasterChef elimination challenge, where Tilly will face off against her fellow contestants – including Ian Thorpe, Rebecca Gibney, Nick Riewoldt and Chrissie Swan – to keep cooking in the kitchen.
It’s the first time TikTok has inspired an episode of Ten’s popular cooking show and there are nerves galore as Gordon appears on the screen from London to set the task – round one is cooking sweet or savoury with eggs.
He certainly relished the opportunity to exact revenge for the viral prank.
“I’m sure you found that clip very funny, and Tilly you’re still dining out on that one, but let me tell you a little embarrassing story about Tilly … every time she used to come out for dinner with me in my own restaurants, by the time the main course arrived she was fast asleep, next minute she wakes up, she’s in the car and she’s missed dinner,” Gordon tells the other contestants.
He also cautioned Tilly, who has already shown she has inherited the Ramsay flair for food, to not exit the competition too soon.
“I promise you now, I hope not to see you for another three or four weeks, otherwise I am changing your surname,” Gordon joked.
“I can’t believe my egg video is being played in the MasterChef kitchen, that’s really making me laugh,” Tilly replied.
“It’s so much fun, pranking dad is always great, but getting it on camera like that is even better.”
However, the British TV presenter shared she didn’t enter “the biggest cooking show on television” just for fun.
“You want to learn from the experts, from the judges and from each other,” Tilly said.
“I love cooking, I’ve been cooking for as long as I could walk and talk. Let’s be honest, I’ve learnt a lot from one of the greatest chefs in the world … he made me say that … so there is definitely an expectation on me.”
Tilly’s loved coming to Australia and becoming firm friends with the other celebs. She’d missed out on travelling in 2020 for her gap year thanks to the pandemic, so she was beyond excited to finally get to Australia.
“The pandemic has been hard for everyone, everywhere,” Tilly said.
“For me I was luckier than most. I was on my gap year and I couldn’t go travelling, so I was home with the family – my amazing baby brother Oscar was a great distraction for the whole family.
“Dad was home, grounded from his usual hectic schedule so we had a chef on hand to cook every day (just joking!).
“We are a very close family and to spend time together talking, dog walks, cooking was a very special time that I’m grateful for.”
