Did the wrong couple win The Block? Fans suggest Steve and Chantelle won because they went last

FANS of The Block have overwhelmingly suggested Steve and Chantelle’s $736,000 win was not due to their talent, but rather another influence on the night.

Block winners 2014

FANS of The Block have claimed that the wrong couple walked away with a win last night, suggesting their massive windfall was more due to running order than talent.

Steve and Chantelle won a record-breaking $736,000 prize money during the grand finale, but critics were quick to criticise their triumph as being the result of “buyer desperation” to secure the last apartment rather than the fact it was the most superior. News_Image_File: Steve and Chantelle never believed they could win.

The pair openly struggled with their styling and execution throughout the series, failing to win any challenges and won the least prize money of all the couples.

They also received the harshest criticism from the judges, leading Steve to complain about being portrayed on the show as “mentally deficient”.

Less than 2 per cent of all money wagered on The Block via Sportsbet.com.au was in support of Steve and Chantelle.

More than 2.181 million people across the five major cities tuned in to watch the grand finale.

But the majority of people on social media said Brad and Dale or Kyal and Kara should have won, however were disadvantaged by their first and second running order.

Brad and Dale went first, securing the least money of all four couples. The profit climbed with every apartment that sold.

However, others were quick to point out that the twins won The Block last year after auctioning their apartment first.

Executive Producer Julian Cress was also aware of the influence of the running order on each auction, leading him to acknowledge the boy’s sacrifice for going first in a statement. News_Image_File: Steve and Chantelle’s apartment was the “quirkiest” out of the four.

“Huge congrats to Chantelle and Steve but I’d like to pay particular thanks to those true gentlemen, Brad and Dale, for putting their hands up and volunteering to be first in the auction order,” Cress said in a statement released to media. “They knew they had a number of cashed up buyers eager to bid and their auction really set the scene for everyone and delivered the greatest gift to their neighbours.”News_Image_File: No one was more shocked at the result than the twins.

A bidder’s agent known only as “Frank” was also said to have influenced Chantelle and Steve’s win.

He bid on every single apartment, but bowed out before the first three were sold.

Frank erupted a bidding frenzy during the last auction, which viewers suggested was due to his desperation to secure one.

News_Image_File: Brad and Dale auctioned their apartment off first and secured the smallest profit.

But for all the critics, there were many people who were delighted to see the underdogs win.

Whether their running order made an impact or not, one thing’s for sure, Steve and Chantelle definitely had the last laugh.
