NSW couple Carly Saunders and Tresne Middleton have spoken out about their desire to be role models for young people after being eliminated from My Kitchen Rules last night.
The popular duo revealed a fortnight ago that they are in a relationship — after initially telling the show’s producers that they were longtime friends.
Viewers have embraced the pair for their positive energy in a show that too-often focuses on villains.
“The majority of the public have been amazing,” Tresne said of the reaction to their news.
“We want to show we are proud to be who we are so kids going through what we went through will know that they aren’t alone and there’s a lot of support out there.”
Unfortunately not even a circle of empowerment could stop Carly and Tresne from exiting the cooking competition after losing to South Australian mums Bree and Jessica by a single point.
But fans were left angry after the bubbly blondes were eliminated, saying the mums’ subpar main, roasted chicken ballotine that was still raw in parts, should have been enough to send them home instead.
Raw chicken wins??? Come on #mkr!!! Goodbye @CarlyandTresne and good luck x

Sorry but raw chicken is never acceptable #mkr

Losing respect for #mkr . Raw chicken beats over cooked beef . I know which one I would order #mkr

I don't understand how it's okay to serve raw chicken to people, but #mkr has rewarded two teams for doing just that this season!

Jess placed the blame at Bree’s feet for this one, claiming her teammate should have carved the chicken earlier so they could check to see if it had cooked through.
“F*** me Jess!” Bree yelled when she discovered it was still raw in parts with just minutes left on the clock.
Here’s how the cook-off went down last night:
The two teams had to prepare a three-course meal in a sudden-death cook-off for hosts Pete Evans and Manu Feildel as well as chef judge Guy Grossi, Karen Martini, Liz Egan, and Colin Fassnidge.
Carly and Tresne plated up an entree of golden scallops with champagne sabayon, pancetta crumb and watercress. Their main was wagyu Scotch fillet with roasted beetroot salad, frizzled onions and beef glaze. Dessert was raspberry and rosewater Turkish mousse.
Bree and Jess grabbed their win with an entree of seared prawns with fennel and leek puree and tomato salsa as well as a main of roasted chicken ballotine with quinoa and lentil salad and garlic aoli. Their dessert was dark chocolate mousse tart with strawberries and pistachios.
Carly and Tresne faced trouble when, with only 10 minutes to go for their main, they realised their wagyu wasn’t cooked enough and had to sear it in a pan.
“The oven was our worst enemy,” Tresne said.
“For some reason everything we were cooking turned out to take double time. I should have insisted on an oven thermometer.
“Time is always a massive part of sudden death. It goes so fast. We basically ran out of time and didn’t get to plate our main up as it was meant to be.”
The judges liked Carly and Tresne’s entree and dessert but stuck the knives in about the main. Fassnidge was unimpressed by the two small pieces of wagyu. Grossi thought the dish was more like a salad, and Egan criticised the wagyu for being overcooked.
Despite being eliminated, Tresne, a real estate agent, says that competing on My Kitchen Rules has strengthened her relationship with teacher Carly.
“Being on My Kitchen Rules tests any relationship,” Tresne says.
“We are lucky that we are so close and we’ve always said what happens in the kitchen, stays in the kitchen. We’ve been through some pretty tough situations in life and this has been the hardest, but it has made us stronger people and a stronger couple.”
