Beau Ryan has lifted the lid on his A-list Hollywood interview that went catastrophically wrong.

Beau Ryan has lifted the lid on an interview with a Hollywood actor that went disastrously wrong and saw him banned from future press events.

The former NRL player-turned-TV and radio host revealed that he’d travelled overseas for The Footy Show to speak with British star Jason Statham about his new film – but had been left empty-handed after a stunt backfired.

“I’d heard he was prickly,” Ryan, 39, admitted during a segment on Triple M’s Breakfast with Beau, Tarsh and Woodsy on Tuesday, but added that he’d been “asking [Statham] questions,” and it was “going really well”.

The radio presenter had then decided to bring up Statham’s brief stint as a professional diver, which saw him compete for the UK at the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland.

Unbeknown to the actor, Ryan had been wearing his Cronulla Sharks swimmers underneath his clothes – planning on using them in a prank.

“So the last question was a ‘Truth or Dare’,” he explained to his co-hosts.

“And I said, ‘mate, Truth or Dare, what would you like?’ He said, ‘I’ll take dare’.

“I said, ‘well, you’ve dared me to show you what I would wear if I was a Commonwealth Games diver’.

“As I’ve stood up to pull my pants off, I’ve been crash-tackled to the ground by security.

“Hands down, like knee in the back, sort of like I was handcuffed behind and then walked out of there.”

As Natarsha Belling and Aaron Woods gasped, Ryan went on: “As I was down, [the bodyguard was like], ‘what are you doing, mate? You’re trying to reveal yourself … mate, he’s got a weapon’. And I got escorted out of there.”

Worse still, he admitted, the publicity team refused to hand over the footage of the interview – meaning he went home with nothing to show for his efforts.

Unsurprisingly, his executive producer wasn’t thrilled.

“[He asked] ‘Where’s the Statham interview?’ And I told him, what happened,” Ryan explained.

“I didn’t do another Hollywood interview after that last one.”
