Taylor Swift fans intent on securing a ticket to one of her Melbourne and Sydney shows are going to need to act fast to make sure they get a seat on a flight to see their idol.

That’s what Adelaide Swifties will be doing despite not knowing which show they will be at until they secure tickets.

Booking flights to Melbourne would be an attractive option, seeing as that is where The Eras Tour Australian leg kick offs on Friday, February 16 and Saturday, February 17.

While you don’t know which of the two concerts you will manage to get tickets for (if you do), the latest you would want to be travelling would be Friday morning.

On that date Qantas is charging $249 for its cheapest fare and its affordable airline Jetstar has seats for $229.

If you fly the day before, Thursday, February 15, the best Qantas price is still $249, with Jetstar seats available for $224.

Virgin fares for February 15 and 16 start from $323.

Rex has the lowest fare for February 15 of $158.99, but with a catch. There’s only a 6am or 1.50pm flight and if you think you might like to fly with Rex on February 16, there are no seats available.

The above Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin flights are school holiday last minute booking prices, suggesting the demand for flights on that date is already as strong as Swift’s fans desire to get tickets to one or more of her shows.

The airfares are more than you would expect to pay when booking a trip six months in advance.

Qantas and Jetstar flights earlier in the week are almost half the price; on Tuesday, February 13, you can fly Qantas for $125 and the following day both Qantas and Jetstar have seats for $134.

Jetstar, meanwhile, has $89 fares on those days, which is almost a quarter of the $323 February 15 and 16 fares.

Rex, on the other hand, has $79 seats on February 13.

So if you want to save on airfares it might also pay to consider staying a few extra days either side of the concert, if you can stay with friends or family or are happy to pay for accommodation.

It is anticipated some two million Australians will attempt to buy tickets to Swift’s Sydney concerts from Monday at 9.30am Adelaide time via the Ticketek website, with Melbourne shows on sale from 1.30pm.

But only American Express credit card holders will be eligible for the first round of ‘VIP’ ticket sales, where packages featuring various seating options and merchandise combinations will go for up to $1249.
