Adelaide-born rapper Allday has delighted fans with a surprise pop-up concert – in an unexpected location.
The Adelaide Hills product performed to a crowd of hundreds at Westfield Tea Tree Plaza on Thursday, playing a selection of hits along with new songs.
The 32-year-old, who is based in London, said he was happy to be home seeing family and friends – including his two grandmothers.
The performance was part of Westfield’s Feel Your Rhythm concert tour, which includes artists Jessica Mauboy, Amy Shark, Thelma Plum, Client Liaison and Gretta Ray.
Allday, whose real name is Tomas Gaynor, grew up on the streets of the Adelaide Hills – the same area that spawned hip-hop legends the Hilltop Hoods, and Golden Guitar winner Beccy Cole.
After dabbling for a short while in stand-up comedy, he won recording time in a studio after competing at the Northern Sound System in a community centre in Elizabeth.
From there, he began creating mixtapes and YouTube videos.
Under the rap moniker Allday (his fans know him as Allday Chubby Boy), he was signed to OneTwo Records in 2013, a smaller label formed by Australian hip-hop artist Illy and Melbourne’s UNIFIED Music Group.
