Sporty Spice Melanie C has wrapped up her recent DJ tour of Australia, sharing some photos from her three-week jaunt with fans.
The extended visit saw the Spice Girl, who turned 50 in January, DJ for audiences in cities including Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Cairns and Albury, as well as holidaying in the Whitsundays.
The pics show “Sporty Spice” is still as fit as ever, rocking a two-piece bikini in one photo taken poolside at her Brisbane hotel.
Another photo shows a Spice reunion of sorts – Melanie C posing with a posse of Spicy drag queens during her time in Perth.
Melanie C’s visit down under comes amid yet another rumour that the Spice Girls may soon reunite for what would be their first-ever Australian tour.
This time around, the speculation was sparked by an “industry insider”, calling in to radio station 3AW on Tuesday to claim that the 90s pop group had been booked to perform at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in early 2025.
But Australian Spice Girls fans will know not to hold their breath waiting for this to come true. The group has a long history of teasing Australian fans with rumours of a tour which, so far, have yet to amount to a single performance on our shores.
Back in 2007, the Spice Girls announced that their first reunion tour, The Return of the Spice Girls, would include a stop-off in Sydney on January 17, 2008.
No further details were given, and the band eventually cancelled the Sydney date before tickets had gone on sale, along with other planned stops across South America, Africa and Asia.
In 2019, the Spice Girls reunited again, this time as a four-piece, for 13 huge stadium shows across the UK and Ireland. Farewelling the crowd at their last show at London’s Wembley Stadium in June 2019, Mel B announced that fans would see them all next in Australia in February of the following year. That tour failed to materialise.
Australia had always been a huge market for the Spice Girls — their first two albums went six times platinum each, and we were the only country in the world to send their 2007 Greatest Hits to number one in the charts.
Still, at least a couple of members of the group don’t appear to have given up hope of another reunion: Mel B continues to tease that the group will be “doing something together pretty soon, all five of us,” while on her last Australian visit in November last year, Melanie C announced onstage in Sydney that she’d return to the country soon and “may have some friends with (her)”.
And Mel B’s telling comments in a recent interview suggest Mel C might have been wishing she was here with her Spice bandmates during this Aussie visit.
Asked by Attitude Magazine which Spice Girls song she would choose to describe each of her bandmates, Mel B offered the caustic banger Tell Me Why for Melanie C.
“She’s so sensitive, questioning ‘why? Why did it end up this way? What’s going on?! Why am I in Australia doing a DJ tour when I want to be with you girls on stage?!’ It’s that panic,” she revealed.
For now, though, Spice fans were at least treated to a rare five-piece reunion at Posh Spice Victoria Beckham’s recent 50th birthday party in London. Candid videos from the night showed that the group hit the dance floor for a few of their iconic hits – and even serenaded the crowd with an impromptu rendition of their ballad Mama.
It was the first time all five members of the group had been seen together since 2018.
