Spence Denny is making a full-time return to radio, less than three years after announcing his retirement.
The beloved broadcaster will replace Jason Chong on ABC Adelaide’s evenings program in 2025.
Funnyman Chong, a Fringe Festival favourite and regular fill-in presenter at the ABC, has been in the role for less than 12 months, after taking over from longtime host Peter Goers.
Chong will move to the Sunday Mornings program in 2025, which Denny has hosted for the past year.
In January 2022, Denny announced he was retiring, effective immediately, after 33 years on-air.
Denny had worked in several roles over the years, from roving reporter to drivetime host and as part of the ABC Grandstand sports team. For the 11 years of his career, he’d been on the early morning shift alongside a range of breakfast hosts.
In other lineup changes, former breakfast co-host Nikolai Beilharz will move to drivetime and veteran broadcaster Jo Laverty will present afternoons in 2025.
Breakfast duo Sonya Feldhoff and Jules Schiller will also be back next year.
The news comes after ABC’s state political reporter Rory McClaren was announced as David Bevan’s replacement next year in the mornings timeslot.
Bevan revealed on Tuesday that he was calling time on his radio career, with his last show on December 13.
