Sam Smith to perform at 2015 Logie Awards

BRITISH soul sensation Sam Smith will bring some serious firepower to this year’s Logie Awards.

Sam Smith recently shared a few painful stories from his childhood when speaking at the Metro Centre in London. The four-time Grammy winner said he's faced bullying and physical attacks for being gay.

CHART-topper Sam Smith will perform at this year’s Logie Awards.

The British soul singer will squeeze in the TV slot between sold-out shows on his Australian tour.

“I’m so excited to be travelling again, it’s incredible for me to come to Australia,” Smith said. “I went there on holiday. I spent New Year’s Eve there, walked over the Sydney Harbour Bridge, went to some lovely cafes in Sydney, I loved Kings Cross so I’m very excited to be coming back and singing for people there.”

Smith, 22, scored his third Australian Top 10 single this week with Lay Me Down, following No.5 hits Stay With Me and La La La, as vocalist for Naughty Boy.

Smith’s album In the Lonely Hour has been in the Australian chart for 42 weeks, 30 of those in the Top 10, and has sold over 140,000 copies.

The album has sold over 3.5 million copies worldwide, including 1.7 million in the UK and 1.3 in the US.

In the Lonely Hour saw Smith win four Grammy Awards and two Brit Awards this year.

Kelly Clarkson is another international act rumoured to be performing at this year’s Logies, as well as Voice judges Ricky Martin and Delta Goodrem.

Last year’s Logies performers included Kylie Minogue, Ed Sheeran, Tina Arena, John Newman and Jason Derulo.

Smith begins his sold out tour in Brisbane on April 25.

Smith will also be the first openly gay performer at the Logies since kd lang in 2010.

He is expected to sing Lay Me Down, which features a video showcasing two men getting married.

“There’s still homophobia out there, I just wanted to express how beautiful marriage between two people who love each other is,” Smith said.

The video has had over 25 million views on YouTube; Smith has just re-recorded the song with John Legend for the UK’s Comic Relief charity single.

The nominees for this year’s Logie Awards will be announced next Monday.
