Ricky Gervais shocks with filthy pre-Golden Globes tweet

SHOTS fired: Golden Globes host Ricky Gervais signalled his intentions with a shocking pre-awards tweet this morning.

BRITISH comedian Ricky Gervais returns to hosting duties at today’s Golden Globe Awards, and if his pre-ceremony Twitter game is any indication, the celebs in the audience should be shifting nervously in their seats.

Unlike previous hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, Gervais crafted a reputation as a Golden Globes host who’d take no prisoners, with barbed gags aimed at some of the most powerful people in Hollywood — to the delight of viewers.

For 2016, he’s upped his game, slagging off all of Hollywood before even getting dressed and heading to the ceremony.

Gervais posted one of his signature unflattering shirtless selfies this morning along with the crude caption: “Better get dressed and offend some humourless c***s I suppose.”

From his 2010 hosting debut (“I like a drink as much as the next man. Unless the next man is Mel Gibson”) onwards, Gervais has used the Globes as an opportunity to revel in the scandals Hollywood stars prefer to forget. But speaking to Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet ahead of today’s ceremony, he admitted he needs a little Dutch courage to get through hosting duties.

Asked if he drinks before the ceremony, Gervais’ long-term partner Jane Fallon jumped in: “Before, during and after.” Gervais himself admitted that “every time I do something like this I look forward to it being over”.
