Adelaide signer Racheal Leahcar’s beloved guide dog and best friend Ella, who has been by her side for 11 years, has sadly died.
Her “goldie girl” passed away peacefully after collapsing last week with Ms Leahcar sharing the sad news on Facebook on Tuesday.
“It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of my beloved Ella,” she wrote.
“On Monday last week, Ella collapsed at home and couldn’t get back up.
“The mobile vet confirmed she was unlikely to walk again, and knowing how dignified and proud my girl was, I couldn’t let her suffer.
“She passed peacefully, surrounded by love, with me holding her paw, stroking her face and singing her special song, My Girl.
“Rest in peace, my goldie girl. Ella bella, you were truly one of a kind.”
From the moment they first met in 2014, they were as thick as thieves.
“From the moment I heard her name, I knew she was meant to be mine,” Ms Leahcar wrote.
“When we first met, she made us all laugh by putting her head on the ground and her bum in the air for a scratchy.
“That playful spirit stayed with her, from zoomies in the backyard (sending bark flying everywhere), rollies on the grass in the park to melting hearts wherever she went.”
Ella even joined her on stage during her Colours of My Life shows, once making an early entrance during interval.
“The audience’s collective “aww” was pure Ella magic. She was universally adored, and anyone who met her could feel her love and grace,” she wrote.
