Radio rumours: Are Mix 102.3’s Jodie and Soda set to reunite?

Could Jodie and Soda reunite at Nova? Or is he headed to SAFM? We take a look at the hottest brekkie radio rumours from our sources.

Ben and Liam’s radio rise

Never mind the airwaves – Adelaide is buzzing with radio rumours about comings and goings in 2022.

Talk on the street is that SAFM’s Andrew “Cosi” Costello is on the way out and Mark Soderstrom, formerly of Mix 102.3, is believed to be on the brink of a radio comeback.

October is the time of year when the industry bigwigs tweak or turn up the dial on shows, paying extra special attention to breakfast.

There’s no more important timeslot than brekkie – because that’s where the advertisers on radio spend their money.

Industry insiders also say it sets the tone for what follows – get the listeners in at brekkie and they are less likely to switch off and may even stay the day.

Rumours has it Nova 919 will have a completely new brekkie line-up.

Ben Harvey and Liam Stapleton are both believed to have put their Adelaide homes on the market.

There’s speculation they would be moving interstate to host Nova’s national drive show, as previously reported by The Advertiser.

But following news that Chrissie Swan, Sam Pang and Jonathan ‘Browny’ Brown are wrapping up their run on Nova’s Melbourne brekkie show, an industry insider now says Harvey and Stapleton will be relocating to Victoria to replace them.

As for who will take over from Harvey and Stapleton; the goss is that it has to be Jodie Oddy, who presents a Saturday morning show for Nova 919.

There’s been rumours she may reunite with her former Mix 102.3 co-host Mark “Soda” Soderstrom because the two enjoyed huge ratings success.

However, Soderstrom, who left Mix 102.3, last year, is believed to be heading to SAFM.

An industry insider says he has met with Bec Morse, who currently hosts brekky with Andrew “Cosi” Costello and Anthony “Lehmo” Lehmann. Their contracts are yet to be renewed.

Mix 102.3 introduced The Ali Clarke Breakfast Show this year.

Clarke and her co-host Eddie Bannon, who were both previously heard on ABC Adelaide’s breakfast program, haven’t rated as well as the powers that be at Mix 102.3 would have hoped.

Sources say Clarke and Bannon may not be with the station for much longer.

In the latest ratings results released last month, for the second consecutive survey The Ali Clarke Breakfast Show was in sixth spot despite a huge ad blitz.

FIVEaa had Adelaide’s No. 1 brekkie show, followed by ABC Adelaide, Nova 919, Triple M and SAFM. Nova 919 was the top station overall, followed by Mix 102.3, FIVEaa, Cruise 1323, SAFM, Triple M and ABC Adelaide.

Nova, SAFM and Mix 102.3 were all contacted for comment. A spokeswoman for Nova Entertainment said it did not comment on speculation.

Mix 102.3’s parent company ARN said: “The Ali Clarke Breakfast Show is looking forward to a big 2023 with Eddie and Shane joining Ali again in the New Year on Mix 102.3”
