Rachel Khoo and pastry king Darren Purchese will replace old favourites Maggie Beer and Matt Moran as Foxtel injects new favour into its much-loved baking show.

Foxtel is hoping some fresh new judges and saucy new hosts with provide the right ingredients for the new season of it’s wholesome reality TV cooking show, The Great Australian Bake Off.

World renowned culinary expert Rachel Khoo and pastry king Darren Purchese will replace long-time judges Maggie Beer and Matt Moran.

Comedian Cal Wilson and You Tuber Natalie Tran, whose observational videos have been watched over half a billion times, become the show’s new hosts, stepping in for Mel Buttle and Claire Hooper.

Khoo herself has appeared as a judge on My Kitchen Rules and Zumbo’s Just Desserts.

Purchese, from Melbourne’s famed Burch and Purchese Sweet Studio is also familiar to MasterChef audiences.

As a fan of Bake Off, Purchese, who originally hails from England and has made sweet treats at The Logies, Melbourne Cup and Australia Formula 1 Grand Prix, said he’s still pinching himself that he gets to be part of it.

“It’s such a feel good show. I love the positivity that comes from it. A lot of what we see on social media and on TV is the exact opposite, so this show is a good reset,” he said.

Purchese added outgoing judge Moran kindly gave him his blessing.

He’s also excited for the opportunity to work with Khoo.

“I’ve been a bit of a fan of hers from afar and follow her on social, so it’s a real thrill to for me to be working with such a talented cook, knowledgeable Baker and a real professional,” he said

The show, made in partnership with the BBC, sees 12 bakers compete over 10 weeks to be crowned the best in Australia, has kicked off filming in Sydney.

The sixth season of the show will air next year on Foxtel.
