In a move Confidential didn’t see coming, tenor Mark Vincent has put his operatic take on the record breaking pop track Dance Monkey.
And it seems Vincent and Dance Monkey singer Tones And I could be working towards a collaboration together.
“I didn’t expect it,” the 2009 Australia’s Got Talent winner told Confidential. “It is a song that no one would expect an artist like myself to sing. It was exciting to do my own version and make it my own.”
Vincent had an Andrew Lloyd Webber classic musical in mind when thinking of ways to put his stamp on Dance Monkey.
“The roadblock that I had was the chorus because it is so upbeat,” he explained. “I changed the chorus and the melody and made it feel like Phantom of the Opera as a dramatic love feel to the song. When Tones heard it, she was flabbergasted in a great way.”
A late night text message from a label representative first planted the seed for Vincent to record the track about five months ago.
He and Tones And I, whose real name is Toni Watson, have since been talking about other ways to work together.
“I am crossing my fingers and toes,” he said. “Hopefully the idea will come about where we will do something. It would be great to do something like Ed Sheeran and (Andrea) Bocelli did with Perfect because they are two completely different artists and when they come together it is magic that is created.”
He continued: “It will be really great and people would love it because it is unique. At the moment it could be anything but the idea is definitely on the table so we wait and see what 2021 brings.”
Vincent, 27, meanwhile in July became a father for the first time to son when Matteo was born.
“It has bettered me as a person in so many ways in being more determined because now you know you have as on and you want to do your best to be there for him and provide for him for the future,” he said. “It has been a beautiful change in our lives.”
Vincent will perform his Christmas with Mark Vincent concert to Doltone House Sylvania Waters on Sunday at 2pm and 7.30pm.
