The US actress, who revealed her diagnosis in March this year, said “now I can breathe” after revealing the mark.

Munn, 44, was told she had breast cancer in April 2023, and over the past year has had four surgeries to fight the disease.

This morning, Olivia appeared on TODAY to chat to Savannah Guthrie about her journey and open up about why she wanted to show off her surgery scars in a campaign for Kim Kardashian’s brand, Skims.

“When Skims approached me to do this campaign, it was just to do their shapewear and their leggings, it wasn’t about my scar at all,” Munn said.

She continued, “We were in the middle of the shoot and we were changing an outfit that could see more of my scars, and the make-up artist was touching up my scars and we got to the double mastectomy scars, and they were just really hard to cover up.

“Then I was looking in the mirror, and I just thought, I’m done being insecure about my scars.

“So I went to the team of Skims and I said, ‘What do you guys think about showing my scars in this campaign?’

“They were so amazing, thoughtful and wonderful. We talked it out and then we decided to do it! That’s the result of it.

“It was scary, but I feel like this is something I’ve been hiding for a long time now, and it just feels like I can breathe a little bit more.”

Munn went on, “Also knowing that there are so many women that have these same scars as me and I know so many of them feel the same way I felt about them for so long.

“I hope that they see this Skims campaign, Skims is so iconic and associated with beauty and sex appeal and cancer doesn’t really have that same connotation.

“I really hope other women that have gone through my same path feel a little better.”

Munn went for genetic testing in February 2023 to test for 90 different cancers.

Although it came back negative, she was given her breast cancer diagnosis two months later, revealing she had Luminal B cancer in both breasts.

The star then underwent four surgeries, including a double mastectomy.

Munn told fans earlier this year, “In the past ten months I have had four surgeries, so many days spent in bed I can’t even count and have learned more about cancer, cancer treatment and hormones than I ever could have imagined.

“Surprisingly, I only cried twice. I guess I haven’t felt like there was time to cry.

“My focus narrowed and I tabled any emotions that I felt would interfere with my ability to stay clear-headed.”

“I needed to catch my breath and get through some of the hardest parts before sharing.”

Munn then thanked her doctor, who detected the cancer after deciding to calculate her Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Score just in case.

“The fact that she did saved my life,” said wrote.

Thirty days after her diagnosis, Munn underwent a double mastectomy and went from “feeling completely fine one day, to waking up in a hospital bed after a 10-hour surgery the next.”

The star then thanked her partner, US comedian John Mulaney, as well as her family and friends.

“I’m so thankful to John for the nights he spent researching what every operation and medication meant and what side effects and recovery I could expect,” Munn continued.

“For being there before I went into each surgery and being there when I woke up, always placing framed photos of our little boy Malcolm so it would be the first thing I saw when I opened my eyes.”

Despite her health battle, there have been some incredible things that Munn has had this year, including the birth of her second child with Mulaney.

Last month Munn wrote on Instagram, “Méi June Mulaney came into the world September 14, 2024, the year of the dragon.

“I had so many profound emotions about not being able to carry my daughter.

“When I first met our gestational surrogate we spoke mother to mother.

“She showed me so much grace and understanding, I knew I had found a real-life angel.

“Words cannot express my gratitude that she kept our baby safe for 9 months and made our dreams come true.

“I am so proud of my little plum, my little dragon for making the journey to be with us. My heart has exploded.

“Méi (pronounced may) means plum in Chinese.”

Gestational surrogacy is when the woman carrying the baby did not provide the egg.

The couple, who are also parents to two-year-old son named Malcolm Hiệp, also tied the knot in July.

Mulaney was previously married to Anna Marie Tendler from 2014 to 2022.
