US pop star Olivia Rodrigo praises ‘spectacular’ Australian staple

“Get me 14 of them.” US singer Olivia Rodrigo is in Australia for the first time, and she’s praised one of our local delicacies on social media.

Olivia Rodrigo has shared her experience tasting one of Australia’s most beloved food offerings for the first time.

The US pop star, 21, has just performed two back-to-back shows at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena, where she’ll return for two more shows from Sunday night.

In the meantime, Rodrigo is savouring everything this fine country has to offer. After being spotted casually wandering the streets of Collingwood earlier this week, now, the Driver’s License singer has shared a TikTok video of herself sitting in her hotel room smashing packets of Tim Tams.

Speaking to a voiceover on the clip, Rodrigo described the choccy bikkie as “spectacular”, demanding, “Get me 14 of them right now.”

Captioning the post, Rodrigo shared, “first time in australia and omg i get the tim tam hype.”

Rodrigo has more than 22 million followers on the social media platform (dream advertising for Arnotts), with thousands of fans flooding the comment section urging the star to try the ‘Tim Tam slam’ – whereby the ends of the biscuit are bitten and it’s used as a straw to drink milk.

“But have you done the Tim Tam slam,” Spotify’s official account wrote.

“OMG PLS DO THE TIM TAM SLAM IT’S THE ULTIMATE EXPERIENCE,” a fan said.

“Patiently waiting for an Olivia Rodrigo x Tim Tam collab,” local airline Jetstar added via it’s official page.

Others also encouraged Rodrigo to try Vegemite, Milo and fairy bread during her time here.

After finishing her Melbourne concerts, Rodrigo will head to Sydney to perform at Qudos Bank Arena on October 17, 18, 21 and 22.

Rodrigo’s trip to Australia was long-awaited for her diehard fans.

She had planned to travel September last year on a promotional visit before abruptly cancelling just days out due to “unforeseen circumstances.”

The three-time Grammy winner was due to make a number of media appearances, including on the Today show, and take part in a fan Q&A event, as part of a media blitz to promote the release of her highly-anticipated second album, GUTS.

“Olivia is devastated that she won’t be able to make it, however she’s so excited to see her Australian Livies in 2024,” a Universal Music Australia representative said at the time.

Rodrigo got her big break on the Disney Channel series Bizaardvark in 2016, later finding greater fame on Disney+’s High School Musical: The Musical: The Series in 2019, before shifting her focus to a music career.

In 2021, she released her mega-hit Drivers License, which peaked atop the US Billboard Hot 100.
