For every Cold Chisel fan, they may as well be the Willy Wonka golden tickets.
As the revered Australian rockers enter the final three weeks of their triumphant Big Five-O tour, Jimmy Barnes and his bandmates have scraped together just over 500 tickets for their last two Sydney concerts.
While there are some tickets available to their Vailo Adelaide 500 gig in Adelaide on November 17, every one of the 23 shows on their 50th anniversary victory lap of the country has been completely sold out.
With fans and critics are in euphoric agreement these may be the greatest concerts of their five decade career as one of Australia’s most successful and beloved bands, Chisel scrambled to open up just over 250 tickets for each of their final shows at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena on November 16 and December 4.
The side-view tickets are now on sale.
Barnes and his bandmates Ian Moss, Don Walker, Phil Small and Charley Drayton have sold more than 180,000 tickets for this tour which has played in Big Top circus tents, wineries and arenas.
Even as global stars including Olivia Rodrigo, The Weeknd and Coldplay commanded the nation’s stadiums and arenas, so have Chisel carved up every stage they have stormed since the tour opened in Armidale on October 5.
Inciting one of the loudest “pub choirs” to tip the decibel meter into the red at an Aussie gig, Chisel have commanded audiences with a masterful show packed with the songs which have soundtracked our lives for the past 50 years from Khe Sanh to Flame Trees.
Despite his flurry of life-threatening health battles over the past two years, Barnes has been in inspiring form, determined to be the physical embodiment of rock’n’roll’s life-affirming powers.
No one knows if this will be the final Australian tour but it’s unlikely Chisel will undertake such a huge national run again.
