Taylor Swift scam warning as Sydney, Melbourne show tickets sell out and go on resale

Australian Swifties have another chance at more tickets to Tay Tay’s shows, and have been warned about buying tickets of resale websites after extra seats sold out in Sydney and Melbourne.

Crushed fans were furious that many fans were boasting they had managed to purchase tickets to multiple shows while they had remained stuck in the “Ticketek Lounge” for the 52 minutes before the latest release sold out.

Others expressed frustration that when they finally managed to progress from the “lounge” to select tickets, they were unable to select seats or were booted out.
The sell-out came after fans snapped up the tens of thousands of extra seats for her four Sydney shows in 90 minutes.

While many fans vented their frustrations about being stuck in the Ticketek Lounge for the entire time watching the 10-second timer count down on an endless loop, others seemed to breeze through the process.

Within minutes of the allocation of extra seats to the Sydney shows being exhausted, fans who scored multiple tickets to different nights were offering them for resale.

One fan had tickets for the Friday and Saturday shows in different sections and was offering them via the Tixel platform which allows fans to exchange tickets for no more than 10 per cent markup on face value.

But Ticketek and Frontier continue to issue warnings that they can’t help out Swifties who might be scammed by unauthorised sellers.

“We have not allocated any tickets for the Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour to unauthorised resellers (which include but are not limited to Viagogo; Stubhub; Ticketfinders; The Ticket Merchant; Worldticketshop; and Tixel) or via websites such as eBay, Gumtree and social media Buy Swap Sell pages). To make sure you pay the correct ticket price and receive valid tickets, you must purchase via Ticketek Australia.”

But the conditions of sale do not ban fans from selling any tickets they can’t use for “no more than 10% above the original cost to the extent such resale is expressly permitted under relevant State or Federal trading laws applicable from time to time.”

Extra seats released for Taylor

While those additional seats sold today, it won't be the last chance Swifites have to secure tickets for her Australian performances.

It is understood there will be a limited final allocation of tickets once the mammoth Eras Tour production arrives in Australia and the promoters can identify other “partially obstructed” seats which can be sold.

And there are still giveaways via radio stations and tour sponsor Crown Melbourne.

Millions of fans sparked a ticket frenzy in June when they logged on to secure one of the 450,000 spots to her Melbourne and Sydney shows.

Following a similar process to the release of extra tickets offered at Swift’s American concerts, the new seats, some partially obstructed side view tickets, will be available from $79.90. Others are believed to be tickets in nosebleed sections.

There were additional accessibility option tickets released, with fans who have already submitted application forms to Ticketek to be contacted directly.

Frontier and Ticketek advised fans there would be a limit of four tickets per customer per show and anyone who exceeds the limit “may have any or all of their orders and tickets cancelled without notice.”

A map shows the partially obstructed seats that will be available at the MCG.

The Eras Tour ticket prices are A Reserve for $379.90, B Reserve for $309.90, C reserve for $239.90, D Reserve for $199.90, E Reserve for $159.90, F reserve for $119.90 and G Reserve for $79.90.

Ticketek also shared some tips ahead of the tickets going on sale.

They advised fans to log onto the Ticketek website at least 15 minutes before the on sale time and follow the link to your preferred city to go through to the Ticketek Lounge.

Fans shouldn’t leave the Lounge page or refresh their browser while waiting to be let through to the event page.

Once you get through to buy tickets, keep an eye on the timer to make sure you complete your purchase before the clock winds down.

The new seats to all Australian concert dates will be available on November 10 at 10am for the Sydney concerts and 4pm for Melbourne at taylorswift.ticketek.com.au, until allocations are exhausted.

Venue maps for Sydney’s Accor Stadium and Melbourne’s MCG showed there were several bays at the venues which hadn’t been offered for sale when the tour launched in June.

TikTok videos posted by Swift fans who attended the Eras Tour shows in the US showed the side view seats offer a decent view of the concert action, except the very back of the main stage.

There is a giant video screen anchored to the left and right flanks of the Eras Tour stage which broadcasts all the action fans in those seats couldn’t see directly, and Swift makes sure she sings in their specific direction during the three-hour show.
