Pop superstar Dua Lipa is the latest global act to signal the thawing of our international tour freeze, announcing she will perform in Australian arenas in November 2022.

The Don’t Start Now star dropped her global party starting album Future Nostalgia just as the pandemic hit in March last year but it has remained a chart stayer for 18 months, courtesy of a parade of pop hits including Levitating, Physical and Break My Heart.

She is currently riding high in Australian charts with her Elton John duet Cold Heart, the remix mash-up created by Australian dance electronic legends PNAU, which has generated more than 70 million global streams in a month.

“I am beyond excited to be bringing my world tour to Australia, it’s been way too long, but I promise, we are going to have one heck of a party,” she told fans.

Australian promoters have announced a slow but steady succession of tours from March next year with expectations vaccinated international artists will be able to quarantine for seven days by then and crowd capacities will be at 100 per cent.

American rockers Kings of Leon are slated to perform six concerts from late March, English indie pop band London Grammar are due in February as his Kiwi pop star Lorde, who just released her new record Solar Power.

And Australia’s fresh prince of pop The Kid Laroi will finally come home to play arena gigs in May next year, adding extra shows in Sydney and Melbourne last week because of high ticket demand.

Waiting in the wings to reveal his Australian tour dates is Ed Sheeran.

He revealed the UK and Europe dates for his Mathematics world tour (also know as the + – = ÷ x tour) over the weekend and should unveil his plans for Australian fans to coincide with the release of his new record Equals (=) in October.

Sheeran took time out after his record-breaking ÷ tour, which ran between 2017 and 2019 and became the highest grossing tour in history, to get married to longtime partner Cherry Seaborn and welcomed baby daughter Lyra last year.

They came to Australia in March to farewell his late mentor and mate, Australian music legend Michael Gudinski.

It will be interesting to see if Sheeran changes things up for his Mathematics tour having performed with a band instead of his usual one-man-and-a-loop-pedal set-up for his recent MTV VMAs performance of new single Shivers.

The competition to book venues for concerts over the second half of 2022 and into early 2023 will heat up as more Australian artists also scramble to find space for their rescheduled dates or to announce new shows around the country.
