National music treasure Paul Kelly has always been a festival or theatre kind of guy but he will take over Australia’s arenas for the biggest shows of his career next year.
Kelly’s tour dates dropped this week as the revered musician prepares to release Fever Longing Still on November 1, his first album of new original material since 2018’s chart-topping record Nature.
While his focus may be on his new stuff, Kelly’s enduring Christmas carol How To Make Gravy is also headed back into the charts soon as the feature film inspired by this adored song premieres on Binge on December 1.
The movie has been adapted by filmmaker Nick Waterman and musician Megan Washington from his song which tells the story of an incarcerated man writing a letter to his brother lamenting missing the family’s Christmas celebrations.
“Dan and Joe and Rita and Angus and Dolly and all the others have been stuck inside that song so long, I’m glad they’re going to get a chance to live life a different way,” Kelly said last year after the film was confirmed.
His fans celebrate Gravy Day on December 21 each year.
The award-winning songwriter, whose beloved songs have stamped themselves on Australia’s cultural DNA, might be playing the big venues but he’s kept ticket prices affordable for his legion of fans.
There will be two price points with A Reserve for $155 and B Reserve for $110, plus booking fees.
Fans will score two of his favourite artists as support acts on the tour with American roots rocker Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit and ARIA country music queen Fanny Lumsden also on the bill.
