An iconic band from the 1990s have stunned fans with a surprising request.
Alternative rock group the Smashing Pumpkins took to Instagram earlier this week to post an unusual job advertisement.
While some bands have been known to put out calls for roadies to help with equipment, this advert was for a far bigger position.
“The Smashing Pumpkins are in search for an additional guitarist,” the post read.
“This application process is open to anyone who might be interested.
“Applications may submit a resume and related materials to SPGuitar@redlightmanagement.com.”

Fans originally thought the post was a prank.
But in a follow up post the next day, the Smashing Pumpkins confirmed the job advertisement was real.
“This is a good time to remind everyone that SP is touring this year! UK, Europe, US and more,” they added.
The Smashing Pumpkins formed in Chicago in 1988 and rose to worldwide fame during the next decade, becoming one of the most influential sounds of the 1990s.
The current line-up is the same as when the band started, with Billy Corgan, now 56, on lead vocals and guitar, James Iha, now 55, on guitar, Jimmy Chamberlain, now 58, on the drums.
The band’s original bassist D’Arcy Wretzky, now 54, left the band in 2000, and was replaced with different members until the arrival of Jeff Schroeder, now 49, in 2007.
But in October 2023, Schroeder announced his amicable departure from the band after 16 years due “to explore a slightly different path”.
With the news of an opening blowing up online, Smashing Pumpkins fans expressed their excitement in the comments of the post.
“This is the moment I’ve been waiting for,” posted one.
“Maybe I should I text my ex boyfriend … we literally had a smashing my pumpkins tribute band and he’s the best,” said another.
“I can’t believe this is real, applying right now,” wrote a fan.
The Smashing Pumpkins came back to our shores back in April 2023 after eight years to play 10 jam-packed shows around the country.
Corgan graciously thanked us for coming more than once, while Iha left the crowd in stitches after revealing his new-found affection for a certain Aussie food item.
“It’s been a while since we’ve been to Australia,” he began.
“It’s awesome here. I had French fries with chicken salt, and I was like, god dammit, what is on these French fries?
“Or chips. And they said ‘chicken salt’ I said, ‘I gotta get some of that, bring it back to America and make a million dollars’.
“So, for all those who enjoy chicken salt, this next new song is for you.”
The rocker’s love for the Aussie item continued the next night, when he even made a song dedicated to his love for chicken salt.
“In Sydney, I get crazy, with chicken salt,” he sang to the crowd.
“It makes me crazy, chicken salt, chicken salt, yeah. I’d never heard of chicken salt.”
The band is set to kick off their European tour in June 2024, playing shows around the continent for just over a month.
With no new guitarist announced yet, the opportunity remains open to anyone around the world.
