‘See you in court!’ Steven Tyler threatens to sue Donald Trump over Aerosmith’s first hit song
AEROSMITH frontman Steven Tyler really doesn’t want to be associated with Donald Trump’s bid for the White House.
AEROSMITH frontman Steven Tyler has reportedly threatened to sue US President hopeful Donald Trump for playing his song Dream On at campaign rallies.
Tyler, a proud Republican, sent Trump a cease and desist letter in August but Trump continued to use the track.
A second letter was sent to Trump’s campaign committee on Saturday.
However, Tyler’s legal team insists any legal action towards Trump isn’t politically motivated.
“[Tyler’s] position has always been consistent regarding copyright and intellectual property,” Tyler’s attorney Dina LaPolt told TMZ.
“Simply, one must get permission from the music creators. Steven wrote 100 per cent of Dream On, and this is about the unauthorised use of his property.”
The letter said that Trump does “not have our client’s permission to use Dream On” or any of Tyler’s other songs and that it “gives the false impression that he is connected with or endorses Mr Trump’s presidential bid.”
Released in 1973, Dream On was Aerosmith’s first hit single.
