Daniel Johns prepares to release mini biopic after learning his fate for drink-driving accident

After teasing fans for weeks with a trailer and photos of a mini-film about the early days of Silverchair, Daniel Johns is poised to press play.

Daniel Johns checks into rehab after car accident

Daniel Johns will resume his music career with the release of a mini biopic about his life in the early days of Silverchair.

The troubled artist and his team began teasing the film as Johns underwent rehabilitation for alcohol abuse and chronic anxiety and depression, after pleading guilty to high-range drink driving following a car accident in March.

He was sentenced to a 10-month intensive correction order to be served in the community.

The upcoming “featurette” from “the mind of Daniel Johns” called “What If The Future Never Happened?” was announced in May.

“What If The Future Never Happened? is about the decisions that Daniel made as a child and how those decisions would alter his path forever,” TeamFuture posted on his Instagram page in mid June.

Johns would later share how freaky it was to watch his 17-year-old lookalike, surfer and actor Rasmus King, recreate moments from his own life, both before Silverchair exploded and at the height of their fame.

“On camera he was shy but a complete smart-arse, utterly obsessed with his music but insecure about the world; he’d spent hours watching old videos of me in the early Frogstomp era and watching him play me was incredibly surreal,” Johns posted.

The official trailer for the music video meets sci-fi mini-movie has already generated more than two million views and been promoted on neon billboards throughout Hollywood.

The film is just another instalment in John’s wildly successful pop career reboot which began with the Who Is Daniel Johns? podcast last year

Johns detailed the harrowing impacts of his teen stardom on his physical and mental health, the stories behind Silverchair’s records and tours, and his relationship with ex-wife Natalie Imbruglia.

He cleverly teased new music works within the six episodes and then announced the success of the podcast – and reignition of his devoted fanbase – had galvanised him to relaunch his music career with his second solo album FutureNever.

Johns and his team’s big plans for the record’s release screeched to a halt when the singer told fans he had been self-medicating with alcohol after the recurrence of panic attacks.

While the musician entered a rehabilitation program immediately after the accident, fans still embraced the record’s release and it debuted at No. 2 on the ARIA album charts.

Shockingly, FutureNever would go to No. 1 three weeks later thanks to the release of a cassette version.

“I’ve been working so hard on myself over the last seven weeks that I’ve been a little disconnected from the activity around the album. I believe in this album so much and I cannot convey the level of gratitude I have for the people who are supporting the music in such profound ways,” he posted in a statement after reaching No.1.

Johns is yet to confirm when his film will be released but it is expected within weeks as the rocker begins his home detention sentence.
