Iconic Australian musician Brian Cadd has been hospitalised after suffering a haemorrhagic stroke.

In a statement from the rocker’s family on Tuesday it was revealed that he had been rushed to hospital after suffering a stroke and was receiving medical treatment as a result.

“At the end of last week, our dear Brian suffered a haemorrhagic stroke while at home on the Gold Coast,” started the statement from the star’s family. “Fortunately, he received medical attention quickly and is currently under the care of the Gold Coast University Hospital.”

They went on to share that Cadd was recovering and his prognosis was looking good.

“He is stable and his medical team is monitoring his progress. While it will likely be a long road ahead, he is showing early, encouraging signs,” continued the statement.

“We will keep everyone updated as his condition improves but we kindly request privacy at this critical time.”

Cadd rose to fame as a member of The Groop, who scored multiple hits for half a decade between 1964 and 1969. Cadd and bandmate Don Mudie then went on to co-found Axiom, which featured future Little River Band frontman Glenn Shorrock as well.

The rocker went on to release his debut solo album in 1972 before becoming part of the Bootleg Family Band and scoring a smash hit with their cover of Loggins and Messina’s Your Mama Don’t Dance in 1973.

His career continued throughout the 70s and 80s where he signed with Capitol Records and released covers of songs by the likes of The Pointer Sisters and Bonnie Tyler.

In 2007, Cadd was inducted into both the ARIA Hall of Fame and the Australian Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, and in 2018, he was made a Member of the Order of Australia.

Last year, Brian Cadd embraced country music on his album Dream Train which landed at Number 40 on the ARIA Album Chart.

“Five years ago, I never would have done this, thinking of the way I am perceived as coming from the rock’n’roll world,” Cadd said in an interview with The Music. “Then I thought, I’m 77 years old; I can do whatever I want to do. It was a magical experience.

“I felt I had been given this freedom. Let’s have more dobro [and] more pedal steel. They even sneaked some banjo into the mix, and that is something I never would have done before.”
