12 YEARS a Slave led Wednesday’s Screen Actors Guild nominations with four nods, while the much-touted “The Wolf of Wall Street” failed to score in any of the five categories.

The morning’s other big surprise was a snub of Robert Redford for his highly praised solo performance in “All Is Lost.”

The slave drama scored nods in the ensemble category – SAG’s rough equivalent of Oscar’s best picture – for lead actor Chiwetel Ejiofor and supporting performers Michael Fassbender and Lupita Nyong’o.

A trio of films that have largely been bypassed by critics groups handing out awards and nominations scored three SAG nominations apiece: civil rights drama “The Butler,” with nods for ensemble, lead actor Forest Whitaker and supporting actress Oprah Winfrey; AIDS drama “Dallas Buyers Club,” with ensemble, lead actor Matthew McConaughey and supporting actor Jared Leto; and the stage adaptation “August: Osage County,” with nominations for its ensemble, lead Meryl Streep and supporting actress Julia Roberts.

The only other films to capture more than a single nomination were the caper comedy “American Hustle,” which has already won the New York Film Critics Circle best picture prize, for ensemble and supporting actress Jennifer Lawrence; “Captain Phillips,” for lead actor Tom Hanks and supporting actor Barkhad Abdi, making his film debut as a Somali hijacker; and the road comedy “Nebraska,” for lead actor Bruce Dern (like the snubbed Redford, 77 years old) and supporting actress June Squibb, 82.

SAG’s other best actress nominees were Oscar favorite Cate Blanchett (“Blue Jasmine”), Sandra Bullock (“Gravity”), Judi Dench (“Philomena”) and Emma Thompson (“Saving Mr. Banks”).

Rounding out the best supporting actor field were a posthumous nomination for James Gandolfini (“Enough Said”), as well as a surprise nod for Daniel Bruhl for “Rush.”

Supporters of “The Wolf of Wall Street” will likely try to maintain that the snub (which included lead actor Leonardo DiCaprio and supporting actor Jonah Hill) resulted from the film being shown late – but it was screened for SAG’s nominating committee on both coasts.

Among the other films that were snubbed in all categories were a pair of other critics’ darlings: the romantic comedy “Her,” which shared the Los Angeles Film Critics Association’s top prize with “Gravity,” and the musical drama “Inside Llewyn Davis.” Besides Redford, the other main acting omission was Adele Exarchopoulos in the French lesbian romance “Blue Is the Warmest Color.”
