Days away from giving birth to her third child, Teresa Palmer has described playing Michelle Payne in new film Ride Like A Girl as one of the “greatest honours” of her life.

The Adelaide-born actor portrays the Melbourne Cup-winning jockey in the much-anticipated Aussie film, which has released its trailer and official poster. Pregnant with her third child with husband Mark Webber, Teresa says she’s “so moved” by the inspiring true story of the first female jockey to win Australia’s greatest horse race.

“What a beautiful role model Michelle is for women. And one of the greatest honours of my life to be asked to play her. If you have a dream no matter how big, you can achieve it. So proud of this film and all it stands for,” she wrote on social media.

A new image from the film, which opens on September 26 and is directed by Rachel Griffiths, has also been released showing Teresa with Michelle’s brother, Stevie Payne, who plays himself in the movie.

It’s a busy time for the Hollywood actor, 33, who is 38 and half weeks through her pregnancy and says she’s been drinking raspberry leaf tea and using evening primrose oil to bring on and soften the labour.

She’s also joined forces with Christiane Duigan, wife of celebrity trainer James, to launch their own range of nutritional plant-based wellness products called Lovewell.
