Rosamund Pike reveals awkward James Bond sex scene with Pierce Brosnan left her ‘mortified’

A former Bond Girl reveals she felt “so mortified” after filming a sex scene in Die Another Day with James Bond star Pierce Brosnan.

Dame Helen Mirren has condemned the James Bond franchise as 'sexist'

Rosamund Pike detailed just how awkward and mortifying it was to film the sex scene in Die Another Day with Pierce Brosnan.

On Tuesday’s episode of David Tennant Does a Podcast With …, the actress talked about how she “discovered things like nipple covers and all the taping” while making her big screen debut as one of James Bond’s love interests, Miranda Frost, in 2002.

“We have this clinch and then we separate,” Pike, 46, recalled. “I look at this body tape and the nipple covers and they’re covered in hair. And I think, ‘Oh my God, I’m waxing Pierce’s chest!’”

She further explained that she was “so mortified” because she thought she was “pulling off hair with every embrace.”

However, after a few takes, she realised that she wasn’t actually hurting the Mamma Mia! star – but that she was simply covered in the “fake fur” of the rugs they were rolling in.

“I literally thought I was waxing the poor man’s chest!” the Gone Girl actress stated again.

While chatting, Tennant also pointed out that the intense scene could have been awkward due to their 26-year age gap. At the time the movie debuted, she was just 23, while Brosnan was 49.

As Tennant said Brosnan was “older than your dad,” Pike insisted he “couldn’t have been more supportive or kind” while filming the iconic action movie.

Her interaction with the Thomas Crown Affair star, now 71, certainly wasn’t the first time she felt uncomfortable as an actress.

The Pride & Prejudice star previously revealed that she refused to disrobe for her very first audition for the role of the Bond villainess.

“My first audition was for a Bond film, and I remember them saying I was to drop my dress and appear in my underwear,” she said during a 2018 appearance on Amazon’s Audible Sessions, according to Indiewire.

“On the day, I don’t know how I got the resolve and strength of mind, but I just thought if they’re gonna see me in my underwear, they better give me the job,” she continued.

“So, I thought, ‘There’s no way I’m going to take off a dress in the audition for this tape to be sent around Los Angeles and to be judged on that.’”

Pike ultimately did the audition her way and still landed the role.

“So, I put on this shimmering sheath, or whatever the order of the day was, but I didn’t drop it,” she recalled.

Following her success as a Bond girl, the actress went on to land roles in Saltburn, I Care A Lot and The Libertine, plus many more.
