STAR Wars fans are already divided over a new creature that’s set to steal the spotlight in The Last Jedi.
They might be cute with their ridiculously large puppy-dog eyes, but Porgs have whipped the internet into a frenzy with some fans saying they’re underwhelmed with Han Solo’s likely replacement.
In the trailer, we get out first glimpse of a Porg riding shotgun with Chewbacca in the Millenium Falcon. It’s echoes Chewie’s cry from the cockpit.
Inspired by real-life puffins, Wookipedia states Porgs were a sea bird species native to the planet Ahch-To, where Jedi Master Luke Skywalker made his exile in the years following the Battle of Endor.

The furby-esque creatures, who dwelled on the cliffs of the island where Skywalker lived, could build nests and fly.
While many fans have already pointed out they’re adorable as hell, others have called them “dumb”, saying they’ll be “just as cringe-worthy as Jar Jar Binks”.
Don't like what I'm hearing, #Porgs are on the menu in #TheLastJedi!? Nope! This better not happen, if it does it will be my 1st SW dis-like

Other die-hard fans, however, are already in love with the creatures. One passionate Twitter user took it to the next level, saying: “If even one Porg dies, I will f*****g burn the Star Wars franchise to the ground”.
I was gonna wait until I heard a porg speak before giving into the craze. But, umm. pic.twitter.com/Lu6n3ZM6aC

I'd eat Porg, like, now. If you put a plate in front of me and said "Porgs are real, this is porg" I'd 100% try it, eat it right up, try me

The Star Wars universe is filled with odd and adorable alien life, so why are people ripping into Porgs?
Some people are convinced Porgs are destined to become as polarising as the Ewoks — the forest-dwelling teddy bears who single-handedly take down the technologically advanced Empire forces in Return of the Jedi. The Ewoks were largely slammed as a marketing ploy and it’s possible Porgs could suffer the same fate.
While somewhat lost in the shadow of its Porg overlords, eagle-eyed fans also noted another cool creature.
Also from a far away galaxy is the ice fox. They’re on Crait, the mineral world that the remaining Resistance forces have fled to.
The planet was once home to a Rebel Alliance base. It was also where Leia first learned about the existence of a rebellion against the Empire.
One fan asked Last Jedi director Rian Johnson to confirm whether the creature was canine or feline.
He replied:
Itâs crystalline.
