KATE Winslet has finally admitted what we all knew about hit movie Titanic: Rose DeWitt-Bukater let Jack Dawson die.

Winslet, who recently picked up a Golden Globe for her role in the biopic Steve Jobs, made the startling confession while appearing as a guest on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show.

She was speaking about her recent reunion with former co-star Leonardo DiCaprio at various awards ceremonies, and host Kimmel couldn’t resist bringing up that crucial moment where their characters end up in the freezing Atlantic.

The scene has long been a subject of debate as many claim Rose could have saved Jack by forcing him to join her on the floating door rather than remain in the deadly icy water.

It’s also known as the “They Both Could Have Fit” theory.

Responding to the suggestion Rose let her boyfriend die, Winslet admitted: “I agree. I think he could have actually fit on that bit of door.”

Fans have spent nearly 20 years trying to prove to director James Cameron that Jack could have been saved and will be thrilled to hear Winslet concurs with their theory.

One couple even went so far as to re-enact the scene, taping the outline on the floor and demonstrating the various ways the characters could have squeezed on.

According to the diehard fans, there was even enough room for Jack and Rose to bash out a game of poker.

Cameron responded to the theories in 2012, arguing it was not a question of space but “a question of buoyancy”.

“When Jack puts Rose on the raft, he tries to get on the raft — he’s not an idiot, he doesn’t want to die — and the raft sinks; it kind of flips,” he said.

“It’s clear that there’s really only enough buoyancy available for one person, so he makes the decision to let her be that person.”
