Hollywood star Glen Powell has revealed that he “almost died” with his pants around his ankles while filming in Australia.
The actor attended the New York premiere of his new film Anyone but You alongside his co-star Sydney Sweeney on Tuesday.
While chatting on the red carpet, Powell discussed a scene in which Sweeney’s character has to take a spider out of his shorts - he ends up getting naked as a result.
However, things didn’t quite go to plan. While Australia is famous for its dangerous wildlife, Powell’s clumsiness turned out to be the bigger threat to his life.
“You just have to grip it and rip it on a scene like that. You know you’re not going to leave that filming day looking cool, so you just have to embrace it,” he said at the premiere.
The actor told Variety he took his pants off “too fast” in the scene and lost his balance, almost tumbling off the cliff stark naked.
“Taking your clothes off on the side of a cliff in a hurry is not safe,” Powell confessed. “Nobody talks about that safety issue on set, where I almost died falling off a cliff taking my pants off too fast. But it’s a really fun scene, so it was all worth it.”
To make matters worse, while Powell’s life almost ended abruptly, Sweeney found herself getting more intimate than she’d hoped with the spider that had been nestled in his shorts.
“There’s the spider itself, which actually bit me, and that was a whole thing,” Sweeney recalled. “And then we have the part of Glen bending over and me checking to see if there are more spiders.”
Clearly unbothered by rumours of a romance between them, the actress then teased: “I’m very acquainted with Glen now.”
Anyone but You follows archnemeses Bea (Sweeney) and Ben (Powell), who unexpectedly reunite at a destination wedding in Australia and, for personal reasons, decide to pose as the perfect couple.
Throughout filming, rumours emerged that the pair had been hooking up, as they appeared to be getting on so well. Those rumours were further fuelled after Powell and his girlfriend, Gigi Paris, called it quits in the middle of filming.
Anyone but You hits cinemas on December 22.
