Come on Barbie, let’s go party! First look at Margot Robbie as Barbie

She’s used to being a bombshell, and now Margot Robbie has transformed into one of the most recognisable blondes of all – Barbie, ahead of her upcoming movie.

She’s used to being a bombshell, and now Margot Robbie has transformed into one of the most recognisable blondes of all – Barbie.

Robbie, 31 posed in a blue-and-white dress – teamed with a 90s-style material headband and baby pink manicure – in a hot-pink convertible for the first-look at her in costume as the character, from the upcoming live-action movie, Barbie.

The Australian actor is an executive producer on the Warner Bros-backed production, which is currently being shot in London and is due out on July 21, 2023.

Of the character, Robbie previously said: “It comes with a lot of baggage and a lot of nostalgic connections, but with that comes a lot of exciting ways to attack it”.

“People generally hear Barbie and think, ‘I know what that movie is going to be’, and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they’re like, ‘Oh, well, maybe I don’t’.”

She added that Barbie “promotes confidence, curiosity and communication throughout a child’s journey to self-discovery”.

“Over the brand’s almost 60 years, Barbie has empowered kids to imagine themselves in aspirational roles from a princess to president.”

Barbie co-stars Ryan Gosling as Ken, and is directed by Oscar-nominee Greta Gerwig, known for herOscar-nominated films Little Women and Lady Bird. Other cast members include America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, Will Ferrell, Insecure’s Issa Rae and Michael Cera, of Arrested Development.

The image of Robbie in character as Barbie was unveiled as part of CinemaCon in Las Vegas.

It’s the first image of Robbie in the role, which was originally set to be played by Amy Schumer and Anne Hathaway before their casting fell through, after the big budget project was announced in 2019.

Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap Entertainment, is producing the film, along with Mattel Films and Heyday Films.
