Blanchett’s horrendous training for ‘Thor’

OSCAR-winning actress Cate Blanchett reveals the brutal training she endured to play Marvel’s first female villain in “Thor: Ragnarok”.

Is the new Thor film as awesome as it looks?

CATE Blanchett has revealed she got in the best shape of her life by working out with Chris Hemsworth’s personal trainer, Luke Zocchi.

The fitness focus was for her new role in the third stand-alone Thor film, Ragnarok , where she plays the first female villain to appear in a Marvel movie.

Donning all black, including her luscious locks, Blanchett looks badass portraying Hela, the goddess of death.

When reflecting on her training she told Coveteur, “It was hideous. It was horrendous.”

Zocchi is a personal trainer who specialises in preparing actors’ bodies for the various characters they play.

“It was a hardcore cardio and weights circuit, but it only lasted 20 minutes because he had to fit it in between scenes.”

But despite the workout’s gruelling nature, she still admitted, “it was great”.

“I actually wanted to get up at 6 in the morning and work with him for 20 minutes before the kids woke up, if you can believe it.

“It sounds bizarre. I’m not doing that at the moment, but I really do want to get back to it.”

Thor: Ragnarok, which roughly translates as an Asgardian apocalypse, introduces an unacknowledged older sister.

In the movie Hela, played by Blanchett, is banished to a mythological no-man’s land for the best part of eternity.

When she returns, she is not happy.

According to Blanchett the role was very physically demanding.

The Oscar winner said, “I got fit, I mean properly fit, for the first time. My job is very physical.

“I’m doing a lot of theatre, you stretch every day and the job is incredibly physical. And running after children is physical.

She said, “I thought, ‘I really want to stick to this,’ and of course as life tramples on it’s been sporadic, but I really want to get back to that place.”

Blanchett revealed, “It’s actually easier to do a little bit every day. And there’s so many apps now and the thing is, I’m like everybody — it’s so hard to start.

“But once you start doing a little bit, like walking to work, it actually gives you more energy so that’s what I want to change.”

The film, which is set to be released in the coming week, has received mostly positive reviews.
