Adelaide media personality Max Burford has revealed he’s using a “controversial tactic” to save space at his upcoming wedding.
The Mix 102.3 breakfast co-host says he and fiancee Eliza Hodgson have decided not all guests at their nuptials next weekend will receive a plus-one.
“Everyone in this specific group of friends, their partners, not all of them are invited,” he told his co-hosts on The Ali Clarke Breakfast Show.
Burford admitted some of his school friends had been with their partners for “years” – some were even married with children. He had even been a guest at some of their weddings.
“We just don’t have the space,” said Burford, who is also Ten’s sports presenter.
“We know them but we see them very rarely. A lot of them live interstate.”
But Burford told The Advertiser on Friday he added a “tiny bit of mayo on the radio”, and his friends’ partners were actually “quite understanding” of their decision.
“They were happy not to come when I spoke to them,” Burford said.
“There’s a lot to consider when you’re planning a wedding, you can’t have everyone.
“You have to make some cuts everywhere unfortunately.”
One of his guests partner’s recently had a baby and wouldn’t have been able to come anyway, according to Burford.
Both bride and groom have “pretty big families” which have made up most of the tight 140-person guest list.
While explaining his situation on radio, co-host Shane Lowe gave Burford some sage advice: “Don’t have so many friends”.
Phones lit up with listeners wanting to give Burford their two cents on the topic, according to the radio host.
Listeners were split 50-50 on the “controversial” topic, with Burford calling it a “healthy debate”.
“It was good to have a few people in my corner,” he said.
Burford’s wedding to Ms Hodgson is set for Saturday, March 11, in the Adelaide Hills.
The future Mr and Mrs Burford’s ceremony will take place in a grove at the Glen Lea Homestead, and the reception will move to a tennis court.
“We’ve got a few things to run around this weekend sorting out,” Burford said.
“But most of the heavy lifting has been done by Eliza.”
