MEL B’s daughter ‘hates’ stepfather Stephen Belafonte after he brandished a gun at her, it has emerged.
Mel B’s mother Andrea Brown made the revelations in 2009 court documents during the custody fight between the former Spice Girl and her ex Jimmy Gulzar, The Daily Star reports.
“Phoenix told me Stephen had a gun and that he had scared her with it,” Brown says in the papers, which were obtained by the paper.
The couple are preparing to divorce amid rumours that Belafonte beat his wife. Mel B was forced to miss an X Factor appearance after she was rushed to hospital. She later appeared on the UK X-Factor sporting bruises and not wearing her wedding ring. Belafonte has denied the accusations.
Brown previously took to Twitter to rail against Belafonte’s ‘abusive’ behavior, saying the split was “good news”.
“Will never suffer a vile abusive 3am call from Stephan Belafonte again!”, she wrote, later adding “On average it takes 30 beatings for a woman to leave an abusive man.”
Mel B has been estranged from her mum and sister since 2008, with their disapproval of her husband thought to be behind the family fracture.
Reports of Phoenix’s fear of her stepdad comes as Mel B has been turning to ex-boyfriend Eddie Murphy for advice on how to handle her very public split.
Murphy famously demanded a paternity test for their daughter Angel, now, seven, but they are said to have repaired their relationship.
“Eddie told her to keep quiet, stay classy and only talk when she has something to say,” a source told The Mirror.
