A contrite Matt Doran will address his botched interview with Adele on television on Saturday following persistent rumours surrounding the lead-up to the now infamous chat.
Further questions have arisen about the interview stuff-up, with rumours rife on Friday that Doran’s fiancee, Executive Producer of Weekend Today Kendall Bora, was with him in London when the interview took place.
After contradicting senior Seven executives’ statement midweek about him being suspended, Doran urgently sought to clarify rumours about his partner’s arrival in London.
“I am happy to provide you with the flight itinerary,” Doran said.
“She had plans to fly directly to Geneva to see her family there.
“She spent a good week with her family then four days after the Adele interview, she flew to London on the 7th to do the long haul flight back with me. So Kendall arrived in London four days after the interview.”
When asked to address rumours he and his Seven producer Taylor Auerbach and their cameraman had been out until late the night before, Doran said he had an early dinner before retreating to his hotel to prepare for the interview.
“The night before the interview we had dinner over the road from our hotel at 6pm then I spent the next five hours at my desk preparing for the interview,” he said.
“And we got to the interview three hours early the next day.”
When he returns to Weekend Sunrise on Saturday morning for the first time in two weeks, the TV host said he feels he has no choice but to address the scandal which has made headlines around the world. “I’ve had inquiries from Good Morning Britain, CNN, Dubai and Japan,” he said.
Doran has since received messages from hundreds of people on his social media site Instagram, with Adele fans slamming him and others being more sympathetic.
“Seriously??? What kind of journalist doesn’t do his homework. Fly halfway across the world and don’t even listen to the album,” Tania Brocker wrote.
While Olsie95 wrote: “17 hours on a plane and couldn’t find the time to listen to the album. The in-flight entertainment must have been amazing to forget the basics of his own job.”
Michael Hogard was more forgiving, writing: “I don’t blame you … I listened to half of a song from her new album and had to turn it off.”
