Following last night’s explosive episode of Married At First Sight, this season’s cheaters have confirmed they are still going strong.
Carolina Santos, 33, and Daniel Holmes, 30, burst into the commitment ceremony unannounced on Sunday night, unveiling their romantic relationship to a shocked group of contestants.
No-one was more surprised than Carolina’s TV husband, Dion Giannarelli, who had no idea she was having an affair.
Carolina and Daniel asked the experts if they could re-enter the experiment as a couple, effectively dumping Dion and seeing him booted from the show.
Speaking to Channel 9 after last night’s explosive episode, Carolina said it was Daniel’s idea to ask to re-join MAFS as a new couple.
“(Daniel) had the idea first but I was completely on board with it,” Carolina said.
“We were just like, it’s now or never. Let’s just do it and take the risk and hope for the best.
“I knew that there was a big chance [the experts] would say, ‘No’.”
Their request did indeed backfire, with relationship expert John Aiken absolutely skewering Carolina and Daniel on the couch: “There is absolutely no way we can allow you to re-enter the experiment as a new couple.”
Taking to Instagram after the embarrassing situation unfolded on national television, Carolina posted a photo of herself with Daniel and wrote, “I want you to know that I would do it all again. I will choose you every time.”
She added: “We never meant to hurt anyone’s feelings. It was an experiment that did not work for us but we found each other and that is what matters and love is what we were all here for.”
Meanwhile, Daniel revealed he was “sh***ing” himself prior to entering the commitment ceremony, which was filmed several months ago.
“The lead up to walking into the room to kind of expose that we’ve been seeing each other. I was sh***ing myself,” Daniel said.
“I had to try and stay strong, for Carolina as well — we knew we were gonna face the firing line.”
Carolina left the experiment with Daniel, while Dion left solo.
After expressing his shock during the episode, it seems Dion is still reeling months later, telling Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa on Monday morning that he thought Carolina and Daniel were “delusional”.
“They were obviously serious about trying to re-enter the experiment, I think they’re both a little bit delusional, to be quite honest with you, to think they were going to come back in and bring such a toxic environment into a group like that,” Dion said.
“When Daniel and Carolina walked in and said, ‘There’s no real right way to handle it.’ Well, there is a right way. Don’t do it.”
Dion also accused Daniel of forming a relationship with Carolina because he “didn’t get airtime”, after his first wife, Jessica, left him early on.
